You have to be tall to work where I do if you are a guy. I mean really, really tall. When first hired to write for the local city paper, I had to put up with a lot of competitive pressure. As the only girl reporter, I realized I'd have to prove myself over and over. One thing was for sure I wasn't going to let these guys get to me. Tracking down leads for long hours while on my feet was obviously one of the main job requirements. Making phone calls to generate advertising leads was also a big part of what I did at work. I always thought that there were many things that were way more important than how I looked. I was more interested in helping people to think about things. Not only was I going to be strutting around the newspaper's office in comfort I was going to be looking fierce. I've been with the same newspaper for well over a year. I've even gotten to the point where I've made more than a couple of shoe shopping excursions.
