Demon Souls Servers Staying Online For The Foreseeable Future

Luckily for us, Atlus justannouncedthat they’d keep the Demon Souls servers on for the “foreseeablefuture!” The games servers were originally supposed to be taken offline at the end of the month, but things have change. Tim Pivnicny,Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Atlus, said:

“We’re incredibly excited to be able to announce that the Demon’s Souls online experience will persist for a while longer. While it originally seemed as though it would be unfeasible for us to continue to sustain the servers, a number of developments have made it possible for us to continue to invest in and support our fans as they have continued to invest in and support us and Demon’s Souls.”

Man this is just awesome. If you haven’t had the chance to check out Demon Souls you really should do yourself a favor and see what it’s all about while the servers are still online. The online aspects of this game are amazingly well done and innovative. I really just don’t think the game would be the same without them. Hopefully they get to leave them up for a long time!

Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor Demo Now On Xbox Live

If you have a Xbox 360, a Kinect, and a internet connection, you know have the opportunity to check out the Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor demo on Xbox Live! The game lets you control a Mech with the help of innovative and awesome Kinect controls. It’s going to be released June 19th in North America, so if this is a title you’ve been excited about you shoulddefinitivelycheck out the demo before you buy it.

I had some reservations about this game when I first heard about the Kinect integration it was going to have… but everything I’ve heard about the game so far has been positive. The old controller in the original game was so involved it actually made the game difficult to play. Hopefully with the Kinect controls everything will feel fluid and the game will feel smoother this time around!

Entry the Metro Short For Metro: Last Night

THQ has just released a new trailer for Metro: Last Night that shows just how bleak the world can become. That’s right, the game might be coming in 2013 but you can start to go into that world right now. Here’s the synopsis:

The Moscow Metro. A monumental feat of Soviet engineering, with a dark secondary purpose – to serve as a refuge in the event of an atomic attack. As the Cold War thawed and the threat of nuclear annihilation seemed to fade, this purpose was forgotten — except by a few, waiting for the signal, ready to open the vaults … the last refuge for the remnants of mankind.

With everything so zombie this and vampire that these days, isn’t it nice to get back to the familiar grounds of nuclear holocausts? Yeah, we think so too.

The Whole Staff Of 38 Studios And Big Huge Games Gets Fired

Now for some really sad news. 38 Studios of Providence, Rhode Island and Big Huge Games of Timonium, Maryland have apparently let their whole staffs go. According to an employee the company send the staff this letter::

The Company is experiencing an economic downturn. To avoid further losses and possibility of retrenchment, the Company has decided that a companywide lay off is absolutely necessary.

These layoffs are non-voluntary and non-disciplinary.

This is your official notice of lay off, effective today, Thursday, May 24th, 2012.

It’s always sad to see a company close down, and for this many people to lose their jobs. Living in Maryland I’m a fan of Big Huge Games and have followed their work for some time. They just put out a great game, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, and I know they could have continued to make a lot of great games if they were given the chance. It just goes to show the cruel nature of thebusinessthat is video game programming. Everyone wants to get in to the industry because for a video game fan it’s their dream job. The side of it that’s not so great is that these companies fund themselves withcommercialproducts. If they bomb on the release of a game, the company can go under. I guess that’s just the way it is. Hopefully the employees of these companies can find other jobs quickly and keep living their dreams of working in the industry. I know I’m going to be wishing them luck!

Skyrim 1.6 Patch Bringing Mounted Combat!!

So we all know swinging a sword or an axe is more badass when it’s done from a mount. Looks like Bethesda Softworks knows that too! The company just recentlyannouncedthat their next patch, patch 1.6, is bringing mounted combat to the game! If you can’t wait to check it out and you’re a PC Skyrim player, you can currently get the Beta on Steam. There’s no word yet when the update is coming to the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, but it’s on the way.

See it’s reason like this you have to respect Bethesda Softworks. I mean when they patch and update a game, they really know how to patch and update their game! Oh, and the best part of all? It’s free! I mean what’s not to love. Bravo Bethesda Softworks… Bravo!

Mass Effect 3 DLC Rebellion Pack Coming May 29th!

Mass Effect 3 is getting some sweet new DLC May 29th, 2012. The DLC is going to called the ‘Rebellion Pack’ and it’ll be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. It’s bringing two new maps “Firebase Jade” and “Firebase Goddess”, three new weapons, new equipment, consumables and six new characters! If you have the Online Pass this DLC will be free. If you don’t have the season pass you can buy it for 800 Microsoft Points or $9.99 on PSN.

I’m glad this DLC is on the way! It really seems to be adding a lot for a small price. I mean they’re basically giving away the Online Passes these days, and if you don’t have one it’s not going to cost you too much to get one.

Sleeping Dogs 101 Trailer

If Sleeping Dogs wasn’t already on your radar for August, this trailer might just put it on the map. Square Enix has put out the video below which shows you just how deep this game is, and after we got a chance to play the game at PAX, we can definitely back up the claims.

Now there’s still no telling how it’s all going to come together but the open world is great, combat and fight mechanics are really well executed and we found a surprising amount of care was put into vechicle gameplay as well (and when’s the last time you heard that)?

Video below and game coming out August 14th!

Command & Conquer Tiberium Alliances FTP Browser Game

EA has announced that their new free to play browser based RTS is now available for public consumption.

Command & Conquer Tiberium Alliances is out there waiting for you and if you’re a fan of the C&C franchise, it’s at least worth a gander… First off it’s free which is great, and secondly it’s in a browser which means you can be playing whether you’re pretending to watch Bethany Ever After with your girlfriend, at work pretending to work, or even at home when you’re just trying to just unwind.

Now the controls in the game are a bit different from franchise installments of the past, but the GDI vs NOD storyline will surely feel familiar with gamers as well the ability to upgrade units, resource harvesting and other core gameplay mechanics. Check out the game at http://www.tiberiumalliances.com/ and check out the trailer below!

Headshots from the Heart 24 Hr Charity Borderlands Marathon!

Of all the things we’ve done here at NA, one of the things we’re proudest of is our participation in last year’s Extra Life where with your help we were able to raise more than $2000 for Children’s Hospitals. And so it’s with great pleasure that we can hip you to another group of fantastic gamers also trying to do some good out there – Headshots from the Heart.

This weekend during May 26th and 27th, 4 main players and a dozen other volunteers will be coming together to play a 24 hour marathon of Borderlands in support of Child’s Play, which donates over 2 million dollars to Children’s Hospitals every year. The marathon will be broadcast in real time which means you’ll have the opportunity to participate in trivia contests, make strange (and probably inappropriate) requests of the hosts and a whole bunch of other things too.

Now if that was all that was going on we’d still have to take our hats off to Headshots, but they’ve also gone above and beyond the call of duty in getting together some truly gamerific prizes for the people who contribute to the cause! We’re talking hand painted figures, VIP music tickets, steampunk dice, really kickass gaming cases, hats, wands, glasses, a NeverEnding Story tablet cover… The list really goes on and on and on.

So hey – Why not get involved and support the guys and girls over at Headshots from the Heart with a donation? As gamers, one of our biggest strengths is how our communities can be a force for good and this weekend there may be no better good than the work Headshots is doing. And if that’s not a good enough reason, are you telling us that you couldn’t use a NeverEnding Story tablet cover?

Crazy Street Fighter Box Set Coming To PS3 & 360 September 18th

If you’re a collector who just can’t get enough of giving Capcom your hard earned cash, you’re in for a treat. Capcom’s releasing a Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector’s set September 18th on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The collectors set will cost $150 and it’ll come with 15 discs! Included will be Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Street Fighter III 3rd Strike Online, Super Street Fighter IV AE with all the DLC, and Street Fighter X Tekken with all the DLC. It’ll also have Street Fighter anime, adocumentary, a light-up Ryu statue, a 11-Disc Soundtrack, 64-page art book and Ryu’s Belt.

The deal doesn’t seem too bad for all the cool stuff you get. But really, which Street Fighter fan who would consider buying this wouldn’t already have most of this stuff? I mean I might consider this if I didn’t already have most of the games. I guess it’s just what we’ve come to expect from Capcom. Trying new ways to sell their same old stuff!
