book read, you are dumb.
"The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed." 1) Look at the list and bold those you have read. 2) Italicize those you intend to read. 3) Underline the books you LOVE. 4) Put a line through the books you HATE. 5) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them"

something about birthdays as you get older. completely uneventful and unexciting. we did make a steak and shake run with a dimwitted waitress, and a manager who didn't know about the birthday special and brought out the wrong dessert... tech went better. and now i'm old. oh, and don't feed bums. they're ungrateful and just want more. you'd think if you bought someone dinner, they'd be happy enough. hell, i like when people buy me dinner! but i don't then ask them for champagne.... and a cookie.... and some gold-plated kidneys.
ugggggggggggghhhhhhh. i just got up for an 8am production meeting i didn't have. i got the date wrong.
need coffee.
Merry christmas one and all.
i am quite sure you should not write christmas cards when you are sleep deprived. you end up making jokes that aren't funny. i'm afraid i may have either written something exponentially stupid or just offended someone. however, i don't remember.
colin and i spent a couple of days with my dad and sister, which was really nice. we hadn't seen him in two years, and hadn't been to maine in longer. tuesday we spent the day in portland. went to the comic book store and out and about with colin's old roomie greg. tuesday night we met up with my friend nick from hs (and his fiance), who is getting married on christmas eve, and whom i hadn't seen in close to five years. laurie is really cool and i wish we lived closer by so we could all hang out often. we had sushi, and crashed on his futon (comfiest futon ever) then drove the next day. we checked out UNE by driving around (stupid town has no SIGNS telling where the college is), had the worst breakfast ever, stopped by the NH liquor store, and made it here in time for chicken wings. we'll be in NY through xmas.
OK. whoever called me at 2am last night needs to fess up. i was asleep. phone rings, disoriented, i pick it up. "hello?" silence, then they say "are you there?" i say, "yes." they say, "i'll call back." now, wait a minute. you've already woken me up. at least start talking to make it worth my while. mysteriously, the phone says "no number" so i couldn't dial back in the morning. and while the voice seemed male, i couldn't place it in my sleep-state. colin says it was probably a wrong number, but i'm not so sure. so, yeah. tell me now or face the laser beams of doom.
i've been having migraines lately and discovering new allergies. i think i'm developing a nut allergy, starting with hazelnut, maybe creeping to peanuts. which would be really sad b/c i love thai peanut sauce. and i found out i'm allergic to jasmine when i tried drinking tea the other day. and something in bath and body works made my fingers swell like sausages. i figured if it didn't make my eyes water it was ok. this simply isn't fair. i think i'm going to try to get the school doctor to recommend i see an allergist and get testing done. i swear allergy doctors are sadomasocists. they get paid to repeatedly stab people with needles. you PAY them to inflict pain and send you into hypershock... and if you're really in bad shape, they get to stab you with an epi-pen to make you feel better. who gets the real deal there? but, headaches and diet could theoretically be interrelated. although i found out my sister is on migraine meds. its funny when you prefer to have your head float ten feet above your body than a normal headache. sometimes i just feel disoriented and like i'm going to fall over/pass out. or dizzy with little light specs in the air. other times its like someone is crushing my skull. i'm thinking both of these things are bad. and that it could be a possible explanation for the incoherecncy and misspelling in this entry.
goodnight all.
most publicized show ever
those of you who occassionally stop by facebook, i have put a few photos of my show up. This is my favorite from dress rehearsal though. Photo call tomorrow night.

"sold. sooooold. sooo-old. to the man from the circus"
in an interesting turn of events, Laura's set and my costumes for Seussical have been sold upon completion of our run. this means when they remount the show there will be credit given to the two of us, something in the vein of "designs originally conceived by" and we will have our bios in their programs. a lot more people will see our show. i'm suddenly feeling grown up and professional.
halloween in about an hour, i put together a little red riding hood costume. i had the hood from when colin and i dressed up about 3 yrs ago. white corset w/under blouse, red skirt, petticoat, hood...it went well. although trent laced me in entirely too tight. i had several people comment on "my girls," but if you can't wear a corset and be busty on halloween, when can you? i don't think i was snapped in any pictures. watched corpse bride and were-rabbit. no trick-or-treaters. puzzle pirated. overall, uneventful, but pretty good.
seussical opens next thursday so until then i am busy, busy, busy. it's coming together though??
this is halloween, this is halloween, haloween halloween halloween
per usual i'm too busy making other people's costumes to come up with a decent one of my own. into the closet we go. even if its the standby ren faire gear. we should be able to do something ok. i have an hour or two this morning before teaching. i'm sad this year. i have carved no pumpkins and have attended halloween parties in the number of 0. next year i need to make ammends.
BUT the day is not over. it could improve. perhaps there is a remedy... in any case, enjoy one of the most glorious days of the year. happy halloween!
and i, who am dumb, have lost my ATM card and license. this has been waiting to happen for like the last three days. i'm scatterbrained and probably took it out of my pocket and set it in a bin of fabric or something like that. stress. this time at least i noticed right away and have cancelled the card. so, for 5-7 days i'll be financially retarded. suck.
on to charleston this weekend, even tho i have a pile of homework.
in other news, talked to colin about babies last night. he brought it up. there have been a lot of times i see pregnant mommies or little kids and i've been like, "ohhhh...babies." wistful. but talking about going off of bc and all that stuff. hyperventilate. oh god, not ready. i can't imagine having a little person sometime in the next year or so. i think there is more waiting involved. at least until i can do a job search and get started and all that jazz. finances. insurance. yeah.
but its good he's thinking of it more immediately.
nice to know you're loved by your friends
too busy
macbeth opening party was rather fun, though i spent most of it trying to make baskets with plastic eyeballs and jen's shirt. this weekend/the next few days promise to be busy. 8am meeting tomorrow, more work in shop. angel's reception and macbeth show tomorrow night, super saturday and painting with laura with all the kiddies on (guess) saturday, sunday evening talking about designs with seussical cast. somewhere in there i need to work on autocad. and tues. i need to drive to roanoke to pick up things from the theatre there for our show. and at some point i need to schedule a cat vet trip for annual shots. i still owe kelly a vitae, need to fill out scholarship forms. ho hum. where do all the hours in a day go?
going to go sleep a few away.
sometimes i wish you'd show a shred of remorse.
and we're off.
its two pages of writing. i'm doing everything in my power not to write this screening report. part of it is, we're discussing well-known issues and points made in movies. i'm intelligent enough to recognize the themes, but feel the freudian mother issue has been beaten to death (with good reason) in discussions of Psycho. i can't just say, "oh by the by, i noticed that norman bates seemed a little preoccupied by his mother. do you think his insecurities had anything to do with freudian theories and led to his psychotic disposition?" i don't feel we're digging at anything new and exciting. sure, lets talk about the obvious things, but also give me a pearl of insight. excite me, i'm bored.
it is only this year that i have started to feel relatively "old." and only because i've been teaching, really. the other day in class i got three incredulous questions: "you're on facebook?! you have myspace?! you're married?! i wanted to say, hey, i'm not much older than you guys! then i realized that some of the kids are 17. i'm starting to approach a decade on some of these kids. crazy.
and today i got a big kick out of one of them. it goes something like this. of my gap long sleeve orange stripe cotton comfy shirt and dk blue jeans, in front of the class during the middle of the old age demonstration: "i'm not trying to hit on you or anything, but i just wanted to let you know you're outfit is really hot today. what? i'm serious." later, he feels he has to qualify this. "the orange goes well with your skin, and the lighter stripes go nice with the blue jeans. you gave me a weird look."i reply, "i thought this was my frumpy outfit today." a girl says, "s. stop sucking up. you're not going to get a better grade. i thought it was cute too, i just wasn't going to say anything." thanks guys. they crack me up. a lot. they give me a bit of a hard time, but i've actually been enjoying the class. i hope when they switch up second half of the semester that the other group is a good bunch too. heh.
i did indeed go to violent femmes saturday night and they were awesome. however, it was a bit like watching 40-yr old +- men masturbate. at that age, something about singing about preteen angst and borrowing dad's car keys is wrong. at that point, they're the dad... still, they were great live. sounded just like the cd. and played all the favorites. but they had this crazy looking guest guy in the back, balding, playing a banjo...
