in remembrance...
My childhood was shaped by music. I grew up on many, many, many different artists and bands. The Bee Gees were a huge part of that. When Mo died a few years ago, that saddened me, and now, with Robin gone, and only Barry left, I am both made sad and relieved. At least the twins are together again. It's still sad though.
But I'm also grateful that they were part of my childhood. I have so many good memories with their music.
I have never actually used the LJ "scrapbook" feature, but I figured a lot of you might (Spooky does), so I'm reposting this. Note that LJ could not be f**king bothered to offer an English translation of the Russian announcement:
Alright, I am not drunk enough to deal with this, so I'm just going to put out this PSA:
Livejournal Scrapbook is going away. Your 10GB of Paid Member space is now 2GB. If you care, there is an explanation in Russian on the Russian news page. There's also a user-submitted translation.
+ You will no longer have access to your Scrapbook once this goes live. + Your images will redirect, but the URL will be different. + Unable to tell what will happen to any photos you have that put you over the 2GB limit. + Back up your Scrapbook just in case. + If you want your photos transferred over now instead of waiting, let them know here.

Smash
I like musicals. Not every musical, but I do like them. I tried Smash on a whim when it started a few months ago and loved it.
So here's a list of what I love about it.
1. The creative process. I love how it just starts from a little remark that's half an idea, and then Julia and Tom just can't help writing more and more. That's exactly how it it starts. I love theater stuff so it's interesting to see the show being put together.
2. It's an ensemble piece, which I'm growing fonder of. I like all the characters on Smash, with the exception of Ellis, who annoys me immensely. I get a little tired of Julia's home storyline, and I'm unsurprised to see the way Dev's character is going, unfortunately. (I feel Raza Jaffrey plays the jealous boyfriend in everything I see him.)
3. THE MUSIC. I love how the characters' daydreams go into full musical numbers, and how they do covers of popular songs as well. Some of the songs are catchier than others, but I've enjoyed them all.
4. Ivy/Karen. I like both of them. I want both of them to get the role for different reasons. AND I want them to be best friends. I can't help it. Ideally, they'd do that thing where they switch roles every night.
5. I like the different relationships on the show. The writing partnership between Tom and Julia. The old friendship between Ivy and Tom. The working friendship between Derek and Eileen. I like seeing people interact where they're not just romantic interests playing off each other. I want more than that.
6. The subject - Marilyn Monroe. I like Marilyn. I like her in movies. I think she's a good actress and singer. I don't think she was the most amazing actress better, but I do think she was special. It's the kind of thing where I like the subject and that's nice, but it's not painful if they do it wrong.
So far I think I'm the only person I know watching this show (except dawnintheforest! I knew I knew one person, heh.) and that's kind of nice. It's just me and the show.
Day 4 Day 04 Favorite book of your favorite series:
I've already said my four favorite books of the Gerald Morris Arthurian series in the previous entry.
The Enola Holmes and the Sookie Stackhouse series' all sort of run together. I enjoy every book and I have favorite moments in each book, but I don't have a specific favorite book.
As for ASOIAF, it would have to be A Storm of Swords. It's got several of my favorite moments of the series. Also, Jaime pov chapters FOR THE WIN.
A YA series concerning Sherlock Holmes's younger sister, Enola. I expected to like Nancy Springer's series about Robin Hood's daughter much more than this one, yet it turned out to be the other way around. The Rowan Hood books were not really my cup of tea at all, but I adore Enola Holmes. She's a great character and I say that as a twenty-something, despite the series being meant for 12-14 year-old-girls.
2. The Arthurian series - Gerald Morris
My favorite version of the Arthurian legend. The first I've across to inject humor into the stories, but kept the seriousness as well. My only problem is that since the series covers many different characters throughout the legends, my favorite characters (Terence, Gawaine, and Morgan) aren't in every book. However, whole series is enjoyable and the four books that are mainly about them are absolutely brilliant. And I would recommend reading all of them, because if you just read the last two you'd miss out on a lot of great characters.
Favorites. The Squire's Tale, The Squire, His Knight, and His Lady The Squire's Quest The Legend of the King
3. The Sookie Stackhouse series - Charlaine Harris
Simply put, I love them.
4. A Song of Ice and Fire - George R.R. Martin
HOW LONG TILL THE WINDS OF WINTER? HOW LONG?
Day 2 Day 02 A book that youve read more than 3 times.
Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. It's something of a comfort read at this point, which may sound odd regarding a book about the apocalypse, but there you go. It is comforting. I like to take it with me on airplanes, which explains why many of my memories of reading various bits are always connected to cramped, tiny seats and an endless stretch of sky. I own several copies. A paperback I picked up somewhere. Another paperback my sister got in England, a hardback my mom found at a thrift store. They're all special.
So far? Hmm. Toss-up. The Silver Curlew was a happy nostalgic visit to a childhood favorite whereas The Hunger Games has given me the most new FEELINGS. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did, and as a result I've already started reading Catching Fire. Still, it's only April. The year is young yet.

Five Reasons and Characters To Watch Spartacus Vengeance (That Aren't Spartacus)
After the death of Andy Whitfield, I really wasn't interested in watching Spartacus: Vengeance. I wanted to, but it didn't feel the same. Liam McIntyre does his best, and it's not bad, it's just different. I watched, and I enjoyed, but the character of Spartacus wasn't the main reason. A few spoilers behind the cut...
1. Mira - At first just a character who I felt was there to create some romance/drama/tension in the tragic absence of Spartacus's dead wife, Mira grew into one of my favorite characters. She's tough and resilient. She tries to understand Spartacus's love of his wife, even as she struggles with wanting more from him. She trains and becomes a valuable warrior, fighting alongside the gladiators. ARCHERY. I am a huge fan of archery, and it was
