constant meowing & leash training
My cat, Alabaster, whom I adopted from a shelter a few months ago HATES being alone, and when he is, he will let out some pretty pathetic and sad meows. He is the loudest most vocal cat I have ever had. He always seems to meow right right when I go to bed, too. As soon as I turn off the lights and get into bed, he starts mewing and walking around my apartment. He also does this around 4:30 every morning and wakes me up. And then when I finally give up and realize that he will not let me sleep, he goes to sleep on my chair in my bedroom! He also loves playing fetch and will bring me a toy and meow at me until I throw it. ( that I don't mind so much. it is pretty cute)
How can I minimize this meowing when I am trying to sleep? I wear ear plugs, but that barely helps with how loud he is. Also, my room mate decided to paint him with Kool-aid a couple weeks ago. So now I have a partially pink cat. He didn't seem to mind it. He was actually purring. XD

I am also leash training him, which is going fairly well. He doesn't mind the harness at all, but he can't seem to grasp the concept of a leash and following along.
my dear dear motty
he was a special boy. very naughty and was beyond anyones ability to teach him to listen like a good boy. i was the closest to him. he came into my life when he was hardly a week old, eyes barely opened. he grew up to be one tough cookie, always surprising me with random scratches that are now scars and one of the few physical memory i have left of him. he was my favorite, just like i was his favorite in this family. he follows me wherever i go, even as i answer natures call, he sits on my lap (v good balancing skills, my boy!) and when i shower, he will stay perched on the toilet seat. doing nothing, just looking handsome. now, he is in another world. somewhere where i cant be at. i cant see him, touch him, smell him and hear him anymore. but always always always, i will feel him, still there, deep down in my heart - a spot that will never be erased. you will always be my favorite boy. i love you dear motty. thank you for choosing me to be your mamacat.
Help Please!
So my cat (a female calico) seems determined not to use her literbox since I moved and had to put it in the bathroom closet. I keep it open for her, and I've shown it to her, but she prefers to pee in my bed instead. I'm trying to be patient, but it's really frustrating because I've moved her box before and I've never had this issue. Any ideas as to what I can do? I can't put the box anywhere else so I'm kinda stuck....
I hope you can help
Bow was shot through the face with an arrow which then went down his neck and out his back, but Carol's Ferals saved him and look how handsome he looks after a year! He has a facebook page called 'Justice for Bow'. Now it's time to help Carol's Ferals do good for other cats like him by voting for them in a makeover contest.
You only need to vote once. Voting is through May 23rd. Please vote and share...they need EVERY vote they can get. My fat kitty is officially (slightly) less fat. She lost 3/4 of a pound in the last 5 months and for the first time weighs less than she did when we got her two years ago (that we know of...she may have weighed less before the boarding fiasco in December when she was fed more than double for a week and a half, but we didn't have her weighed before that). It has taken us so long to find the right brand and amount of food to feed her and I hope this means we are finally on the right track.
She's probably got at least two more pounds to go, but finally we have progress.
As you can see, she's very self-conscious about her weight...

SoftCaps on kitten?
Hi everyone,
I have a new kitten and want to use Soft Caps on him to prevent him from damaging anything (like my arms), but I'm slightly worried this might prevent him from developing normally as right now his preferred method of getting up anything is to climb it with his claws (like my couch and people). Am I wrong and should I wait, or do you think he'll be fine?
It was so warm in our apartment yesterday....
"HOW WARM WAS IT????", you chorus out.
This is a picture that we caught of Tikit:

drbear said she looked up once when the flash went off and then went right back to the way she was when he first went to take the picture.
ants in the cat food bowl!
oh no, we discovered ants eating the leftover cat foot this morning in our cats bowl.
what should we use that would get rid of the ants easily, and safely? [minimal chemicals]
Big Love - Captain Watson
I hope it's not too presumptuous but for those who sincerely love animals I'd like to boost this urgent call. Captain Watson from the Sea Sheperd association has been arrested in Germany and risks extradition to Costa-Rica. Any support will be wellcomed. http://www.seashepherd.org/news-and-media/2012/05/15/urgent-call-to-sea-shepherd-supporters-help-save-captain-watson-from-extradition-to-costa-rica-1376
And to stay in the context here comes a sight of a super-big cat, a great foster-daddy and a super-big love :)

Cat Worry :)
Hello Cat Fanatics :) I have an almost 4 year old black and white cat my little devil called Max. Just a bit worried about him as he's drooling and seems really off his usual bouncing off the walls self.... Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem, don't feel the need to call vets as I have just noticed and have read it can be caused by nausea and or hairballs....He's never shown this before so worries me a little as he is my little furry world. Any help or advice would be appreciated thank you :) My little beast and his fascination with sleeping in places he shouldn't lol <3
pandas missing
Panda has been an indoor outdoor come as he pleases cat. We knew the risks and were willing to accept them. He always comes home in the morning to share breakfast and sleep with me, or on my bed at least if I didn't work that night. He hasn't been home in two days though. He's never missed a day before. We checked all three of the shelters and craigslist, but nothing yet. The one that takes care of DOAs has no report of a black neutered male cat, so that's a little hopeful. There's an empty house across the street where he hunts a lot(in the back yard). This afternoon the kiddo and I are jumping the fence to see if he maybe got trapped back there somehow. He's a pretty special buy, this is the one that's saved my life by waking me up with a criticallylow blood sugar, several times. I keep hoping he will come home soon.
My Dinks is sick -Update- Blocked
I just got back from taking him to the vet. He was fine when I went to bed last night, but this morning he ignored all food (he is usually a pig in cat clothing) went straight to my bed & growled if any other cat came near (I have never heard him growl in my life). He obviously was uncomfortable, he would gingerly shift like he could not get comfortable. Finally he hid under the bed. I put him in the bathroom while I went out back to get his carrier, when I came back there were small spots of what appears to be vomit. The vet is keeping him for most of the day.I have to go to my doc this afternoon, I'd cancel, but I need a refill on my meds & they can't give it without my coming in & having tests. & naturally the roofers are finishing their repairs- I had put that off as long as I could because of all Shan's vet visits but this last rain water came through in 3 places so no choice.Things always happen at the same time! I'm particularly worried because I had one of the bags of food recalled for salmonella. He has been on a different food since May 7, is that far enough away to not be a concern? Here is the fluffball in question (tuxedo) playing go fish with Tip (the tabby)- Update- He is blocked- can't pass urine.I checked with the vet as soon as the lab finished my tests-I had to take him to a different vet because the original does not have anyone overnight. They are working on him now, He'll probably be at the vet until Thursday. He is 11- not a young boy, I'm really worried. At least it is not salmonella! Update2 - vet just called, catheter is in, urine coming out, he is doing well, getting iv fluids & in an e-collar. He will start prescription food tomorrow -still planning on his staying there 'til Thursday.
Howdy Cat_Lovers!
I know there are some vet techs here, so I have a question. Back in late December our vet gave us some ace to give to Alison for our move up here. At first he wasn't going to give her anything, and said it was too much of a risk for a "little poop and pee", but then as he was explaining this, she pooped and peed all over him. Like, a lot. He gave us four doses, and we only used one on the move up here. She did really well. She meowed a lot, but she didn't make a mess on herself and she didn't cower and hide.
With that said, we are moving again June 4th. It's just to the next unit over, and our landlord is hiring movers to come and move our stuff. My fiance and I are worried that Alison is going to be really stressed out, and we were wondering if it was ok to give her one of the other doses? Or would she have to go see a vet again? She used to be skin and bones from her previous owners, but we switched her to a feeding schedule, and she's put on at least a pound or so. I'm not sure if this will affect the medication or not.
Also, about how long can we go keeping all of them in their carriers? While the movers are moving, we've decided to have them empty out the spare walk-in closet first so we can put the cats in their carriers. We wanted to have them loose in this closet with a litter box and food, but Ziltoid tends to pick on Alison and start fights with her when she starts getting anxious, so everyone is going in separate carriers in the same closet.
Aaannd one last thing. Has anyone ever done this sort of thing? Where we're comfortable in an introduction and then a sudden move sets the cats back at square one? I'm afraid that when we move, the scent of the old tenant's cat is going to make everyone upset and Alison is going to go back to being slowly reintroduced to the boys. When we got her early in December, she couldn't even see the boys from under the door without flipping out and hiding. Now, just this morning, she was sleeping next to Captain Spectacular on the couch. This is like a Big Deal for us.
Oh, and just for fun. Here's a bad cell phone pic of Alison while I was typing this. :)

Argh! Please help us sleep!
I was going to try to look through some back-posts for help but without tags I didn't get very far.
Basically, how do we try to stop the 4am wake-up calls? Our 16 month old cat Rory comes to our bed at night to sleep between our legs, but generally does not sleep all the way through. She will wake, grunt and meow loudly, strop her claws on our wicker ironing baskets, and walk over our heads!
One of us gets up and brings her downstairs but our main problem is that the dining room and extension have a motion sensor as part of the alarm system, something that we have had for years. At night the lounge door from the hall is left normally open and her food/water bowls left on the hearth, and her litter box is in the hall. To keep Rory downstairs we have to turn off the alarm, move the litter tray into the dining room and close all doors into the hall, which would otherwise allow her back upstairs. Even then, my partner has acute hearing and cn hear Rory's cries from downstairs, so she hasn't really had an undisturbed night's sleep for ages. It's almost as bad as when our daughter was a baby!
What I have been avoiding is rewarding Rory - I don't give in and feed her at 4am as I feel that this would become a 'reward' for her behaviour and it would only encourage her.
Any and all suggestions would be welcome...please!!
Kitten Pictures!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry I haven't posted updated pics on the lucky 7. They are now 4 weeks old and will be 5 weeks this wednesday. Almost all have future homes picked out except for Kuddler, the all black girl, and Kenny, the all orange boy.

I love it when cats are clumsy!! Lol! My cat slipped on a pile of papers and went flying off my desk along with them. He messed up my work but I couldn't stop laughing! They try and be all cool 'yeah I meant to do that...' Once my old kitty (RIP) ran head first in to a table leg. He shook his head and sauntered off like it never happened haha. Smokey and me
The other day I got what is I think my favourite picture ever of me and my babygirl, Smokey:

A LoL
Hey, y'all....I made a LoL....So, here's another pic for you....I hope it's alright...

Things you shouldn't have to tell your cats (based on a Snopes thread)
This thread looked like fun and is so true, so I wanted to start it here.
Dear Andromeda, -3 AM is not superfun playtime for me, even if it is for you. Please stop expecting me to wake up and cater to your play needs after I've only gotten 3 hours of sleep. -You've been rushed to the vet thrice for eating long, dangling non-edible food items. Twice for hair, once for jewelry string. The vet is a horrible big scary monster to you, so why do you KEEP insisting on attempting to eat these dangling non-edible food items? -Futhermore, because of your insistence on eating long dangling non-edible food items, you must be given digestive aid and lubricant twice a week. It is going to make your tummy feel better, please stop treating me like I am the most horrible abusive monster alive for giving it to you. -Sitting in the middle of the floor at 2 AM when all the lights are off is not a smart thing to do. -My wall posters are not your personal scratching posts, and neither is my wooden bed, or my wall, or my brother's wall. -You're still not used to shitting hair, to the point that you still have to run around in terror and fling poop everywhere instead of staying in the litterbox and finishing taking the shit? -My friends don't understand cat keyboard gibberish. Can you wait till I finish a chatroom post before trying to type? -I love you dearly. You don't need to be jealous of my friends online and you do not need to express that jealousy by sitting on the keyboard or microphone when I'm trying to RP. -MY HAIR IS NOT TASTY CHICKEN. Especially not while I'm sleeping! -If you're going to jump in my lap, rub your face against my cheek, put your paws on my chest, and purr, can you do it long enough for me to take a video so the Internet knows how adorable you are?
Dear Cocoa, -I HEAR YOU. I just cannot give you all my attention at the moment because I am in the middle of preparing food. You don't need to scream in my ear and bite my arm because I am not petting you right exactly now. -Just because I am eating something doesn't mean it's good for you to eat too. -Flea treatment is not napalm. -If you can't stay out of the way when people are trying to prepare food in the kitchen, you are going to have to be picked up and carried upstairs. Your dislike of being carried does not outweigh the fact that the humans don't want black hairs all over their food. -When your litterbox has no litter in it, it is because it is being cleaned and replaced. Right in front of you. You can't hold your piss in until the litter has been replaced? It's only going to take longer to clean if you piss in the empty tray. -No, you're still not allowed outside.
jules anal glands need expressing. after some (delightfully heartwarming) cuddles i am left with a distinctly fishy odour. god damn. i tried to google how to do it myself in the past but it didn't work out. he won't eat bones the fussy little prick! chicken necks and wings are duly ignored, and quickly snapped up by frank before hunger could force jules to give them a go anyway. perhaps i can pick up a high fibre kitty food..? i want to avoid a costly vet trip...any tips? the smell is unpleasant but i don't think it's hurting him...?
Finally Back Online!!!
Hey everyone,
In January, my hard drive went kaput! Yeah, that sucks, but what sucks even more is that ... I had almost nothing backed up. Lesson learned the hard way. I bought a used computer finally and have been rampantly downloading programs and music and trying to catch up with my digital life. Hey, but I can't let myself get lazy again. Since November, I've lost 45 pounds!
I hope everyone's kittehs are doing well and that those of you who have endured losses will find peace in the memories you hold dear. As for my babies, Tommy - My old blondie boy - he's always had this tendency to scratch just above his eyes until there is no hair and he gets scabs, poor thing. I think he has seasonal allergies. Doc said it may be feline herpes since that's so common, but believe me -- I suffer from allergies and they attack my eyes the worst. I figure if mine are bothering me, why might they not be bothering old Tommy? Doc said I could give him 1 benedryl. Yeah, he enjoys that process. I told Tommy the only alternative was nasal spray, and he'd like that even less! What I would do if I could, is get him some low-dose cortisone tabs. When my allergies are major bad, the medrol packs work like a dream. Any suggestions?
As for Lilah ( my silver girly baby)... she's as spoiled as ever and how can I resist really? No real problems with her other than her occasional butt dragging and intemittant puking. I always tell her it's a good thing she's so beautiful or I'd send her back to her home planet!
Here are some updated pics. The one of Lilah was taken tonight as I was sitting here downloading stuff. I know she was (successfully) trying to distract me with that legendary belly.
