What Does Revoking Bail Mean?

Being arrested and thrown into a holding tank of jail can be a very sobering moment. And if youre like most people, you want nothing more than to get out of jail and get on with your life. After all, who wants to be stuck in jail mixed in with very dangerous felons who have nothing to lose by hurting you.

This is when a person needs to rely on someone on the outside to help him or her get out of jail. And the only way that person can help you get out of jail is by posting bail for you.

After you ask your friend or loved one to post bail for you, youre stuck in jail wondering whats going on outside. Truth is, there is actually a lot going on to help get you released from jail.

Your friend or loved one has by now contacted a Vegas bail bonds company to assist them in posting the bail for you. Your friend or loved ones are subjected to a bunch of questions and need to show the bail company they are willing to cover the entire bail amount for you in the event you miss court or dont completely satisfy the courts directives.

While most bail amounts are outlined in a bail schedule, a court of jurisdiction does have the ability to revoke bail if they feel there are factors involved which deem the defendant too dangerous to be out on bail or poses a flight risk. The main objective is to determine whether the defendant will attend all court dates and not commit any more crimes while out on bail.

The courts may also instill conditions of release. This means the court has the power to make stipulations on your release, including surrendering your passport (so you dont leave the country), electronic monitoring, home detention, alcohol counseling, anger management classes and more.

Prosecutors may also file court papers to seek a revocation of a defendants bail. In a recent case in Las Vegas involving Maurice Carroll, Chief Deputy District Attorney Mike Staudaher argued that Carroll, a former process server and police officer, that Carroll was not a suitable candidate for bail after being arrested for choking his pregnant girlfriend while he was out on bail awaiting trial on two felony cases.

If you do post a bond with the bail bonds company and after your friend or loved one has completed all the paperwork, the bail bondsman will come and get you out of jail. It is up to you, and your cosigner, to then visit the bail bonds office within the next 24 hours so you, as the defendant, can read and sign over the terms and conditions of the bail agreement between you and the bail bonds company.

It is important you read the terms outlined within the bail agreement. Depending on several factors and the guidelines of the bail bonds agency, some agreements may restrict you from drinking, visiting bars, gambling, carrying a firearm, etc. The bail agent will go over, in detail, what is expected of you while youre out on their bond.

Any violations or failure to comply with these terms may result in a revocation of the bond by your bail bonds company and/or the courts.

Christopher Burcham, 25, is being held on charges of attempted murder in the first degree and unlawful possession of a firearm in the March 26, 2012 incident where Burcham was allegedly intoxicated and shot at two North Las Vegas police officers.

Relatives of Burcham reported he had been frustrated about being unemployed for nearly five months and was also drinking the night with family members at a residence near Centennial Parkway and North Aliente Parkway/Simmons Street. Nevada Bail Bonds News

By K. Clarke for Vegas-Bail-Bonds.com

In Las Vegas bail bonds news, Jeanine Escandon, 38, appeared in a Douglas County courtroom on March 12, 2012 to face charges of murder after being extradited from Los Angeles to northern Nevada.

In November 2011, sheriffs deputies responded to a call regarding a deceased person at the residence of Norman Welch, located at 4100 Gray Hills Road in the Topaz Ranch Estates area of Douglas County. It was apparent Welchs body had been there for several days and appeared to be the result of a gunshot wound.

Law enforcement announced Escandon as a person of interest in the investigation but was unable to locate her. They put out an alert on a Chrysler car she was believed to be driving, which was Welchs car. Escandon was described as being approximately 56 tall, weighing about 105 pounds and has false front teeth.

Escandon was found and arrested in Los Angeles at her brothers residence. Escandon fought extradition to Nevada for four months but was eventually brought back to Nevada.

Jeanine Escandon remains in a Douglas County jail on $1 million bail.

After three days of deliberation, the jury was deadlocked and couldnt come to a unanimous decision.

Lewis, on the advice of his attorney, did not release a statement and resigned from his position in April 2011.
