Understanding American Football Rules And Plays

When the world plays football, they are not playing American football, but what is known in the US as soccer. American football is the only game, where eleven players for each team must be on the field for every play. Certainly there are more players on the team, but only eleven are used for each play. There are a lot of young people who like playing football, so quite often just to make the team you want, can be very hard.

At the high school level, that means smaller schools will usually accept almost all who try out, within reason. The bigger the school, the harder the competition, and the less chance of making the team. We will discuss some of the different positions and how to play them.

Depending upon the skills of each individual, they will be given a different position on the team. Those that are chosen to be a running back on the football team have the speed and capability to handle the position. If they are in the right spot, running backs should be near the quarterback waiting to take a handoff if that is the play. They can also catch passes that are thrown to them and block the quarterback if he is going to be sacked. Winning the game sometimes merits using deceptive plays such as having the running back throw a ball. There are many more possible plays that a running back may do to help win the game. The position of the offensive line may vary, depending on the particular play thats been called. The tight end is an offensive position that has several possible roles. Firstly, the tight end will be positioned beside the line, but it isn’t a part of the core offensive line. This position can act as a wide receiver during pass plays, so it can be a used to catch a pass. Then they are also allowed to be a part of the offensive line, for protection of the backfield. If the current play is a running play, the tight can assist the line with making holes for the runner.

There is always something changing on the field if you know what to look for with American football. Quarterbacks and coaches can manipulate the plays from down to down making the game exciting. In many ways, this is a game of expectations and responding to what one thinks the other team is doing, or will do. The blitz is usually executed by linebackers or defensive “backs” that lead the charge. The defensive line will be increased to maximum capacity to do a blitz it the other team is close to scoring. A blitz is a great idea if you can get to the quarterback, but a bad one if you fail because all of the other players will be wide open. Of course there are many rules among all three levels that overlap or are the same. So, the process of a player moving between levels should be relatively easy and there shouldn’t be any issues. But when you are learning how to play football, your best source of information will always be your coach.
