Right cards, wrong reading
A friend of mine asked me to do a reading for her regarding finding a job and whether she was physically well enough to do manual labor; I shuffled, one card fell out and I set that side as being possibly useful, and then drew two more, intending the first two to address the work situation, and the third her health. I used the Rider-Waite deck and got (in order)

6 of Cups
Queen of Cups
7 of Pentacles Reversed

Knowing she was an artist, I asked if she'd tried just giving her work away to people who she knew would love it rather than trying to sell it right now. And, after doing an internet search (because I had NOTHING on the 6 of cups that corresponded to work on my own) I suggested that maybe she could try an old friend or colleague for help finding a position. I also asked if she had ever considered art therapy, or doing art with children.

The Queen of Cups I interpreted as her love of art, but that the type of mastery she had achieved was not necessarily going to lead to practical or financial success (which I thought was also reflected in the Revered 7 of Pentacles). However, this did not mean she should give it up. Quite the contrary. It feeds some part of her soul.

As for the 7 of Pentacles Reversed, I told her that she probably wasn't up to speed yet, so to take things slowly.

As it turns out, she already had been giving her work away hoping to create interest, but it hadn't worked. She said the reading resonated with her. All good, but none of it addressed where she could go to get a job. So the reading was accurate, just not a success. Ugh. Does anyone have any thoughts on how I might have interpreted these cards in the way that she wanted?

Love questions on the Tarot Of The Dream Enchantress
I'd like to start an action and answer all kinds of questions in the love sphere, using Tarot Of The Dream Enchantress. It's a deep and hopeful deck, and is really interesting with such kind of questions.
From you I need your name and birth date, and same for the person you are asking about. Photos are real help, too.
And, of course, a question, with a brief (or not so brief - up to you) description of the situation.
I'll do the first one for free, but then I need to take some payment (webmoney), but the sum is completely up to you, you can send it after my answer (I need it to regenerate my strength, it's kind of a ruitual thing).
Comment here, and then sent me your question via e-mail right away: shigella@list.ru
Good luck and blessed be.

Free Tarot Readings, Monday 7th May
I'm hosting a free Tarot reading day over at my stonetalker home page for those who are interested in having a card read. This month's theme is letting go. See you over there!

Hello?
It's so quiet in here now? Any way I've started a tarot blog I thought I would share some of my entries on here. This morning, as I waited for my son to start terrorizing our poor cat Patches (a little ritual of his), I shuffled my deck and asked them what my day would hold today. Shuffled some more and what did I pull out you might ask? The Hermit. This card has haunted me for as long as I have been studying and reading Tarot. Anytime that I pull the cards it's either him or the angel Temperance, balancing the liquids and waiting to see what unfolds. What exactly is his purpose? Maybe I'm annoying people with my questions? Perhaps I should ask my self these questions as The Hermit is about the process within. I think of recurring cards as the dopeslap from the universe. ("Hello...anyone home?") Either way, I feel that whenever a card comes up repeatedly it's more about a Karmic lesson. Perhaps you're doing too much of or not enough of what that card is telling you to do. You won't move on to your next repeater card until you get it. Ah The Hermit. He's the old man, standing on the mountain, holding his lantern searching for as far out as he can see. What is he looking for? Does he even know yet? Did he lose what he's looking for? Maybe he just wants to test the lantern see how bright the light is, maybe he's thinking it's time to get a new lantern. Thinking. That's that word again. That's what he's about, introspection, solitude, being alone while you do it. I am not sure why he always seems to show up. According to the multiple sources on the internet, The Hermit corresponds with the symbol Virgo. I'm a Libra, but have a some Virgoan traits in my chart. Virgo is about service deciding how you can help the public at large, as well as analyzing, taking things apart until they can all be examined and put together again. If you have Virgo in your chart, chances are you know what I mean when I say I am the type of person that has my iTunes catalog not only organized by genre, but album, artist, song and year. So perhaps I should go hang out with people instead of staying home and sulking. At any rate, I can promise you I will be bringing my cards to any mommy play dates coming up.

Income
Mythic Tarot, How can I create some income from home today?

Not my own deck. I love the artwork and can't wait for it to be finished.

Two questions
1. What do you think of doing free readings for someone?
2. Do you know any spreads related to friendships? I can only find love ones!

A failure to communicate
I've been trying to work with the Rider-Waite tarot because I understand it's a good one to start with, and trying to learn to connect with it. It has been rocky, to say the least. I've read some wonderful books by Rachel Pollack on the different ways of interpreting cards, and so long as I've stayed close to her interpretations, my card-readings have been accurate. However, these cards just don't talk to me. In fact they drive me crazy. I see NOTHING. Even the pictures with action in them seem stiff and dead to me, and I can't engage with the people in them at all. I haven't wanted to give up on them because there has been so many wonderful books written on using RW-type decks (and I just bought another). Is it worth trying another RW-clone, or just going off the rails and doing something like The Enchanted Map Oracle?

By the way, IS there a proper way to get rid of cards/divination tools that don't suit?

somewhat contradictory reading
i would LOOOVE some insight into this reading
my question was to show me the darker elements of my person that are limiting any spiritual development

here's what came up with a traditional CC

Card 1: The World
Card 2: 3 of Cups
Card 3: Ace of Coins
Card 4: Knight of Wands
Card 5: Four of Wands
Card 6: Page of Cups

Card 7: Five of Wands
Card 8: The Sun
Card 9: Eight of Swords
Card 10: Three of Swords

Surrounded by wealth and love and beauty, but casting darkness in myself with doubt and fear...the outcome: the unexpected will bring pain...but you are surrounded with ways to deal with it and recover

any other thoughts?

Favorite Version of the Celtic Cross?
Whats your favorite version of the Celtic Cross? (there are many out there) and why?

Help with a reading... mainly the Empress card (plus some time and place)
First, hi all. New here!

So now, my problem is as follows: I decided to do a spread I saw on a website that gives answers on finding a lover (because I'm corny like that). Perhaps some of you might know this spread, but, if not, the instructions are as follows:

Card 1: Why have I not found my perfect partner
Card 2: How to overcome the issues of card 1
Card 3: The best I can do to find my partner
Card 4: The right person for me
Card 5: Where to find him
Card 6: When to find him

My reading appeared as follows:

Card 1: The Ten of Swords.
Card 2: Nine of Cups.
Card 3: Five of Pentacles.
Card 4: The Empress.
Card 5: The Chariot.
Card 6: Four of Wands.

I would certainly like some insight on my reading, but my main concern is with the second half of it. How can a man be The Empress? Or does that have to do with me? Also, I'm not too good at reading time and places. I know the Chariot and the Four of Wands are cards that represent success... so... am I likely to meet him after some great success in my life?

I would really appreciate your help. Thank you.

The new Mary Greer
Has anyone read the new Mary K. Greer book "Who are you in the tarot"? I was considering buying it, but I'd be curious to hear any impressions of it. For one thing, I was wondering if she was using the same system for identifying personal cards as she did in "Tarot for your self"--numerology based on birthday alone, as opposed to name and birthday.

Yes, I am just looking for another number, because I got stuck with the Emperor and I f-ing HATE that card.

Pursuing tasks with tarot

Sometimes I do spreads to help me with tasks that I am unsure of, or to gain advice and insight on how to pursue them. I just recently noticed that Pixar had a graphic arts internship and it has been a dream of mine to work for them since middle school and has been a part of my drive in college -- to be good enough to work for a company like Pixar. The very fact that Pixar is offering this internship the year I graduate I feel like its almost handing it to me... now I haven't applied yet, I'm working on the application as we speak.

I decided to ask my cards how I should go about doing my application to make sure I get the position and to be noticed in their pool:

I got:

A_ Strength
B_ Queen of Swords
C_ Eight of Pentacles.

Is it just me or is the eight of pentacles pretty much saying I'll get it it? Isn't it the apprentice card and isn't that what an internship is all about?

But C can't happen if I don't put in A or B... which leads me to ask... what does Strength and Queen of Swords mean in terms of putting an application together.. expressing my inner strength and applying attention to detail in the application?

wants
A friend asked me to give her a reading about a deep connection she feels with someone that has authority over her. They tend to work very closely and on a friendship level. She feels that this person has feelings back but is holding them or is serious about them but feels this person doesn't know what to do with them.

My friend asked me to ask my cards about what this person wants from her (in terms of this deep connection thingy).

I got Justice, three of cups reversed and the high priestess.

My gut instinct is that this person my friend has a deep connection with: this person sees my friend as an equal, wants alone time with them and wants to reveal something to them.

How would you interpret this?

Hermit as career path?
In general what kind of career does a hermit have? One who seeks knowledge and truth through solitude (a mystic, or an initiate in an esoteric order)? Or something of a more abstract nature? I keep getting him in terms of my career readings.

King of Pentacles as feelings/emotionally
I did a spread recently about someone's feelings for me and I did a physically/mentally/emotionally kind of spread.

I got the King of Pentacles for emotion and I know he is rather business like and practical what does this say about feelings for someone else?

Negative Outcomes
I got the Tarot of the Magical Forest the other day, so Boyfriend and I decided to do some spreads when we went to lunch. Things were going well until he decided to do a more serious reading about him and his former best friend, whom he misses a lot. He took the spread to mean things aren't going to get any better, even though I tried to tell him that the last card wasn't an inevitable outcome.

Tree of Life spread

1. The Roots (the cause of the situation): Strength
Despite coming from two very different backgrounds, they became very close friends

2. The Trunk (current direction): The Emperor
The two are both transitioning into adulthood, and essentially, into manhood.

3. Branches (positive conditions): Hermit
Here where we started to disagree. He thought this card meant they shouldn't be friends because it was simply not meant to be, where as I took it to mean that they needed time to figure out their own way through this shaky time period for them.

4. Dead Branches (obstacles): Five of Swords
I'm not sure what he saw in this card. I took it to mean that they needed to let go of this petty indifference they've let get between them. They spend so much time pointing the finger at each other and trying to sound like the bigger man, when they really just need to truly be adult and work out their problems.

5. Summary: Four of Swords
This is really where he got the bad omen he was seeing. He's not really into tarot like I am, and he read in the little white book that this card stands for isolation. He thinks the cards are basically telling him that they'll never be friends again. I think it simply means that they need that time to deal with all the things going on in life. It really is a big time for all of us, and I think that we all need to get our feet on the ground and start putting our lives together before thing can really start to improve.

Sorry if I rambled a bit. I just figured it'd be nice to get some input on this spread from other readers. Maybe some second and third opinions will help cheer him up a bit.

I'd appreciate a reading
I think I'm a little too close to the subject to see it clearly on my own.

I'm in grad school for library science, and I've been discovering that I'm not very good at the tech-heavy side of things, so I've started looking at courses that don't require much of that, and they turn out to be things like Children's Resources. Because of this, my advisor suggested that perhaps I'd be interested in the Youth Services Concentration. In addition, one of my part-time jobs is in the Children's Library (though that's not the job I thought I was interviewing for, originally, so it was quite a surprise that I ended up there). Obviously, I can see a pattern forming here, but I'm not certain it's the right one to follow.

The library is not where my heart is, and never will be, but it is one of the only places I can see myself gainfully employed without having to compromise myself or the things I love. Personally, I want to write and learn more about tarot and the intuitive, and I have to respect a want that strong as a pattern of its own.

So, this is about choosing courses but also where those choices will take me in the future in regards to what I want.

Tarot Humor
So I thought I'd just share a humorous thing that happened recently regarding a reading. I use the medieval scapini tarot and I recently drew this card in how someone saw me and they happened to be in my photography class. For those who haven't taken a traditional black and white photography class a third of photography is developing the film and is about mixing chemicals in a tank and agitating it back and forth. I couldn't think of a better art form to represent the Temperance card.

Help me?

I did a Celtic Cross spread and asked about my job. I have been vacillating on if I should find a new one or not. Here's my spread any insight would be awesome I am horrible at reading myself.

1 king of cups: the querent/signifier: some fish this card out and place it I don't I just let whatever comes first go in part one. I have been very emotional over this. This place has been my home for the last four years. But my gut is telling me to start looking.
2 what covers you: 10 of cups: my happiness is what's up for grabs
3. Influences: why i asked in the first place: page of pentacles reverse: Communications have been negative, i dont feel secure, the job feels unstable. The anal retentive-ness has tripled in the last two years. The work load is higher than ever before.
4 6 of swords reversed: had influence on the question but are now leaving: I have thought of leaving before but didn't have the means I do now.
5. 3 of pentacles reversed: what might surround you: a feeling of under appreciation.
6 tower reversed. What will come to pass. Change weather I like it or not.
7 magician reversed: my attitude towards the question: I don't have the tools for the job any more. That I need to get off my butt and start looking.
8 10 of wands: how others feel: that were all supposed to do our fair share
9 ace of wands: fears, hopes dreams: getting the ball moving to something better. In this case a better job.
10. Four of wands reversed: what will happen: home life might take a hit
The gist cards: I drew extra cards to get an overall sense of what this reading was saying: ace of swords: The beginning of something hard is coming.
5 of swords reversed: you're able to defend yourself on equal ground.

King of Cups and Chariot Reversed
King of Cups and Chariot reversed in response to 10 of cups, 8 of Pentacles, Death in response to feelings for another person?

I see 10 of cups, 8 of pentacles and death as happily working towards major change, and since it is in regards to feelings for another, happily working towards a major change in how they feel for this person?

I thought the death card was rather peculiar and decided to clarify it and got the King of Cups and Chariot reversed which I took to mean out of control emotions will change the feelings this person has for the other person.

I still don't know what this means. These people have gotten close within this past year and they were wondering where the platonic relationship will head and what it meant to them.

What are your insights?

moon reversed as madly in love
Hi,
so I did a one card directional relationship reading for someone and I just want to hear what other's think of of this interpretation...

I got the moon reversed to a question about where two really good friends are headed relationship-wise.

Since the moon reversed speaks of illusions, lunacy, etc. could it mean madly in love but literally tied to something? tied in a professional position, or something like that?

That's what I got a first. Perhaps there's something hidden that won't come to light.

madly in love but afraid to admit it?

Asked the deck "Who will be my future husband?" and got the two of cups reversed.
A bit depressing don't you think?

Can anyone shed any light on how the 2/cups RX could describe a person.
Someone who will just let all there emotions out ?
I will know?

In some cases this card suggests divorce and break up.
Perhaps my so-called future husband won't last forever...
