A Room with a View
At the Sands of Kahana, we offer our timeshare owners the opportunity to experience their vacation from a variety of beautiful rooms. Our unit views include ocean front, ocean view and garden/mountain view. We want to ensure that all of our guests enjoy clean, comfortable accommodations. Additionally, we understand that many owners have their room view preference and we strive to be as fair and accommodating with all requests. Similar to other beachside timeshares and resorts, the ocean front view is typically the most preferred.
In efforts to offer each owner equal ocean front view opportunities; the SOK has established the Rotation Basis. When reservations are placed, our services/reservation agent reviews the prior history of your account. Owners who have not had the opportunity to reserve an ocean front view in the previous three years as well as brand new owners are first in line for these rooms (based upon availability). If an ocean front view room is not available during your desired vacation dates, the agent will provide dates in which they are. The reservation is placed once the vacation dates and room category are decided upon. For those of you who have had an ocean front in the last three years, the opportunity for an ocean view or garden/mountain view may be available.
Regardless of reservation lead time, the rotation system applies. Owners will receive priority over non-owners when units are assigned. In addition, exact room numbers will be given at the time of check-in only. As always, we look forward to your feedback and suggestions. According to our recent Sands of Kahana survey, our owners have shared the following details regarding their SOK travel companions:
Spouses travel together 84% of the time
Family members visit 48% of the time
41% of the time friends are invited
37% of kids 13 years old or older attend
Only 17% of owners bring children who are 12 or younger
In comparison, a 2009 Hawaii Tourism Authority survey of U.S. travelers and found that:
70% trips are with spouses
28% vacations include additional family members
24% of the time kids attend
Friends make the cut on 18% of trips
Girlfriends or boyfriends are travel companions only 8% of the time
Same sex partners travel together on 2% of trips

Vacation Satisfaction Survey
Are you curious how other Maui travelers rate their visits to the island? In 2009, the Hawaii Tourism Authority ran an overall visitor survey to study how visitors rate their Hawaiian vacations. In their report, statistics regarding dining, shopping, outdoor areas, room accommodations and attractions were listed. Today, wed like to share several findings as they related specifically to Maui.
A majority of U.S. visitors (73%) rate their last Maui visit as excellent
Maui was ranked the highest in this category followed closely by Kauai at 72.5%
Approximately 86% of those surveyed reported that theyd be very likely to recommend a Maui vacation
83% were highly satisfied with their accommodations
80% were very satisfied with landscapes
75% were very satisfied with activities
60% were very satisfied with shopping offerings
62% reported being very satisfied with restaurants

Whale Watch During Your Next Visit!
Did you know that Maui is known as one of the top whale watching locations in the world? It is famous for the number of whales spotted off the shoreline as well as how near the whales actually get to the coast. The clear waters, bright sunny weather and clear views make for great whale watching conditions!
At the Sands of Kahana, we are excited for the season of whale watching to begin. Beginning in mid-November humpback whales head towards Hawaii to mate and give birth. Approximately 3,500 whales make the journey. The Maui coast is especially busy with whale activity as the waters are warm and have few predators. The whales typically migrate back north from April July. At your next Sands of Kahana visit, be sure to scan the horizon to look for whales blowing or splashing. Hint: one of our prime whale watching locations is on our patio or terrace!

Identifying the Vacation Club and AOAO
Valued SOK owners,
It has come to our attention that there may be some confusion between the responsibilities of the Vacation Club and the responsibilities of the Association of Apartment Owners (AOAO). To clarify, the Vacation Club takes care of items within our timeshare units (linens, dcor, etc.). The AOAO manages items that surround the units (restaurant, pool, etc.).

Update: Our Kids Pool
Hello SOK owners,
We have wonderful news to share with you! The kids pool is making great progress as the area was plastered early this week. A sandy, pebble finish now covers the area to give it a look similar to our beautiful Hawaiian beaches. Special touches include colorful mosaics in the shape of sea turtles.
The center of the two feet deep pool will be adorned with a shady, water fountain designed to look like a tiki hut perfect for your childs playtime! Dont forget, a whirlpool spa (heated of course!) will be next to the kids pool for parents to relax in while keeping an eye on their children. We are excited to share the completed kids pool with each of you! Stay tuned for additional details as the project progresses.

Aloha! An Assortment of Activities at Sands of Kahana
To better ensure that we meet your vacation needs, Consolidated Resorts Management for The Sands of Kahana asked for your feedback on the activities that are currently available to you. We also asked for your feedback on any new activities you would like to see added to the weekly schedule. Specifically, you requested more social and childrens activities. In the coming months, well be working to incorporate some new activities into our existing program.
Here are a few of our guests favorite activities. Make sure to sign up and enjoy them the next time you are at the Sands of Kahana.
We offer a variety of family-friendly activities for all ages that are particular to the Hawaiian culture. Two fun activities included in the arts and crafts activities are lei or bracelet-making classes. Sign up for our Lovely Hula Hands class where youll be taught a hula song by using your hands and feet just like the Hawaiian locals. This class is a great opportunity to engross yourself in the culture.
If you want something more active, sign-up to play on the mini-golf course or beach volleyball game. These two activities will bring out the competitive side!
If meeting other visitors on the resort is something you are interested in, come to the Mix and Mingle events. This event offers yummy complimentary burgers and Maui Mimosas, which ensures a great attendance. It is also open to all ages so you can make it a family event! This event is held every Thursday at 3:30 pm on the grass in front of Building 4. Hope to see you there!

Sand Castle Building
Be creative and use your imagination to construct a sand castle.

How long can you hula hoop? Meet us on the grass fronting Building 4 at 3:15 pm.

Join Us for Lauhala Bracelet Making
Weave your very own bracelet from Hala Tree leaves and Rafia. Vacation Club Room at 8:30 am.
Make a Lei for Your Head or a Hat
Learn to weave flowers and leaves into a lei. Vacation Club Room at 10:00 am.
I Scream! You Scream! We All Scream For Ice Cream!
Meet us at the Vacation Club Room at 12:30 pm for an Ice Cream Social.
