The Lowdown On J M Barnard
There are dozens of people named " J M Barnard" online, this particular one is currently living in Mauritius (Indian Ocean), and has been for the last 12 years. Currently with a lot of spare time on his hands, he is investigating reputation management and general S.E.O. wizardry to great effect.
Working with his wife Veronique, he created the preschool characters Boowa and Kwala and their amazing online universe, CDs, TV series... and cuddly toys ! Boowa and Kwala have made a positive contribution to MILLIONS of kids worldwide since their inception in 1997 - estimates for total eyeballs in the last 12 years range from 60 million to over 100 million.
Achievements Multimedia development (as himself) Finalist at Macromedia's UCON 99 alongside BBC and Prince of Egypt (boowakwala.com) Starting with Flash 3 WAY back in 1998, and continuing today with Flash 11 (AS3), Jason has developed over 1,000 interactive web multimedia activities and applications... Some have been running for 13 years (unlucky for some) and are still going strong (but not unlucky for him!)
Songwriting (as Ben Burrows Jason Barnard) Over 100 songs written and performed Davey Awards (Silver) 2008, The Children's Music Web Award winner 2008
Performing Musician (as Ben Burrows Jason Barnard) Performed vocals, double bass, on 4 albums and in 600 live concerts and festivals with The Barking Dogs The Barking Dogs (often called Les Barking Dogs) is an Anglo-French alternative rock band who played an eclectic mix of fast energetic rock, folk and ska sung in English and French, sounded like the Pogues trying to be the Clash with moments of Tom Waits, Madness, Jacques Brel and Taraf de Hadouks thrown in for good measure. Although apolitical they played a number of benefit gigs for anti-racism and charity causes. The strength of the Barking Dogs was their live performances where direct interaction with the audience and humour were an essential part of the show. The between-song banter sometimes lasted longer than the songs themselves. The instruments played were guitar, double bass, electric bass, drums, Roland SDP11, mandolin, violin, accordion, trumpet, saxophone, penny whistle, harmonica, casio SA-5, vacuum cleaner. The band has played in France, England, Ireland, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Italy. Some live video clips of various quality are now on You Tube!
94 songs and 2 fun albums for Boowa & Kwala 100% positive vibes sent out to millions of small children through the voices of Boowa, Dawa, Mawa, Grandpa Koala, Daddy Koala The songs aim to be simple, easy to remember, and (most of all) useful in everyday situations for kids (and parents). Jason says "The biggest kick I get from all these songs is when I hear that people use a song in their everyday life."
Voice Actor (as Jason Barnard) Boowa, Dawa, Mawa, Grandpa Koala, Daddy Koala, some sheep, ducks, hens, cows... 600 activities, 94 songs, TV series of 52 episodes - 5 voices in French and English (does that make 10 voices?) Check them out on boowakwala.com
Author (as Jason Martin Barnard) Co-wrote the (very well reviewed) Boowa and Kwala TVseries for ITV International

Promoting Positive People It is sad and unhappy that so many negative, destructive people make so much noise and hog the news feeds this site is an attempt to reverse that tendency, even if only ever-so-slightly. This site is all about promoting people who quietly bring something positive to the world.
Being a Positive Person - BadIsOut
With an aim of bringing Being a Positive Person to the fore, I think we should explain what we consider to BE a positive person... or a to do-list for how to be positive. This is, of course, only our opinion, and should be taken with a pinch of salt. How each of us needs to act in order to feel comfortable differs. Some people may prefer to be negative. We leave them to their sad, negative and destructive personal universe :)
Being a Positive Person
IMPORTANT things:
- Choose a project that contributes to the happiness of others
- Get involved in projects that are productive
A project that simply leverages the work of others to one's own financial advantage is negative - Don't try to make more money than you really need
- If making your life better makes someone else's worse, don't do it
Life doesn't need to have the balance of what I win, s/he loses, you can BOTH win LESS-IMPORTANT things:
- Encourage positive people in their positive ambitions
- If you are going to help someone, do in NOW, when they need it, don't delay
- Smile and say "hello" or "good morning" to everyone who meets your eye, every day, whether they return the compliment or not
And a small piece of advice for anyone feeling sad:
- Any situation is as good or bad as we perceive it to be
- Every situation has several facets. One of them will be positive.
- Negative thoughts tend to spiral.
Thinking of something positive, however small, will STALL the spiral. Keep interrupting the negative spiral every time it restarts, and the spiral will start to reverse. Eventually (and I mean EVENTUALLY) it will disappear. Remember BAD IS OUT
- Be like a dog SQUIRREL!
- Allow your mind to be SQUIRREL!
- Distracted and eventually SQUIRREL!
- It will be easy to stop your negative th
- Squirrels.
- Our enemy, or
- Ultimate hope for humanity?
- Think about.... SQUIRREL!
If you
- have any additions to this how to be positive list
- have a better suggestion for the acronym BAD IS OUT (which we freely admit is fairly lame)
- have a better 'funny' way of explaining the idea set out in BAD IS OUT

Impulsiveness - A major issue in eating habits - Margaret Yfera-Leitch
Margaret Yfera-Leitch, Hon. BA., MSc., PhD
With over 65% of the adult population suffering from being overweight, it is clear that thoughtful and unique strategies are needed We need to understand why we are eating too much, and how to stop doing so.
The objective of Dr. Yfera-Leitch's Impulsiveness site is to give context to all psychological aspects of obesity. Her professional and academic career are devoted to understanding eating motivation.
You will not find a single pseudo scientific post: empirical proof can be tough to find, but there is lots of it in the world of Obesity Research. And she finds it !
Her work in academia was devoted to:
- psychometric test development
- human learning and food preference
- impulsivity and overeating
Dr. Yfera-Leitch regularly publishes work in peer reviewed journals, international newspapers, and on her blog (three times a week).
Her expertise becomes particularly useful given the complexity of the current obesity pandemic. The interdisciplinary approach she uses focuses on the complex interplay that is confusing your recognition of true hunger signals. Once you understand how and why you might be eating for pleasure, youll have a better idea of how to stop it.
If you have issues related to pleasure driven eating, binge type eating, or simply are curious about your dependency on chocolate cake, you really should visit Margarets site dedicated to investigating and explaining Impulsive Behaviour
Margaret Yfera-Leitch, Hon. BA., MSc., PhD
Impulsive ? Me ? A short word directly from the horse's mouth...
Our desire to overeat is almost as strong as our desire to be healthy.
If the desire to be healthy were stronger, there would not be quite so many people suffering from conditions such as obesity and overweight (about 1.5 billion people). If we didnt care about our physical presence, emotional issues that surround obesity and overweight would likely not exist either. The objective of this site is to help you understand the psychology of overeating. The advice here has been put together by a group of psychologists, specialized in Eating Behaviour and/or neuroscience. We keep dietary advice to a minimum: the goal is to enhance your ability to make better decisions about the food you choose to eat.You will find assessments to determine the degree to which you are prone to overeating here. If you are curious about psychology and obesity research, please read my blog. If you would like to ask me a question personally, please do write to me.
