Design Ideas For Kitchen Wall Tile

Kitchen Wall TilePersonalize your home with a unique kitchen wall tile design. It is a great way to bring interest and style to a room that is under renovation or in need of a change. The endless options of tile styles and size make it possible to create a room that you love.

A kitchen backsplash design provides both practical and stylish solutions to the kitchen interior. The practical purpose is to protect the surrounding walls from water damage and staining. Without some type of wall protection the drywall can be spoiled and possibly even create mold and mildew problems.

The kitchen backsplash design usually consists of a standard strip of tile along the perimeter of the counter top. This can be one of the most budget friendly solutions and always does the trick from a practical point of view. For better wall protection and a more stylish aesthetic, carry the backsplash design up the wall to the underside of the cabinets.

Kitchen Wall TileAnother possible idea, if your budget allows for it, is to apply the backsplash tile, or a variation of it, to an adjacent wall. This can be a great way to introduce a focal point to your kitchen design.

Whether you’re looking into tiling a backsplash area or an entire wall, consider creating your new kitchen wall tile design with pebble tiles. StrataStones natural pebble tiles create stunning interiors and are extremely easy to install because of the tiles interlocking design. Find a coordinating color to match an existing tile or create an eye catching feature simply with the numerous stone colors, sizes and shapes readily available.

In a kitchen renovation, remember to keep in mind and coordinate with, all the existing materials and finishes to achieve a complete look. A beautifully selected kitchen wall tile can only do so much for an interior if the surrounding colors and overall style don’t match.

Selecting A Stone Tile Sealer

People sometimes assume that natural stones are ‘stain proof’, however this is not the case as all stone is porous by nature and will require a tile sealer. If not properly treated with a protective tile sealer, water, oil and other liquids can easily penetrate the stone leaving behind unwanted stains, and possible mold and mildew buildup. Once treated with a protective tile sealer, natural stone is very easy to maintain and requires minimal cleaning.

It is recommended that a tile sealer is applied to the natural stone once before the grout is applied and again after the grout is applied and dried. Sealing tile before the grout is applied is an important step if you are installing unglazed or unpolished natural stone. These stones are in there most natural state and if not sealed before the grout application can result in staining and discoloration of the stone.

Glazed stone tiles on the other hand, have been professionally treated already with a stone sealer which serves to bring out the natural colors and help protect the stone giving them a shiny or polished appearance. A similar appearance can be achieved on unglazed stone by using an enhancer sealer. A stone enhancer sealer is often used to darken, enrich or highlight the character of the unglazed stone. Before applying an enhancer tile sealer it’s recommended that you spot test your natural stone prior to application to ensure that the results are what you want.

How To Install Strata Stones Pebble Tiles

Strata Stones pebble tiles are extremely simple to install. There is no need to hire a professional tile installer which can save you a lot of money and for those DIY individuals out there, it’s a pretty fun project to tackle.

Watch the video and read the instructions below to see just how easy this project can be.

Pebble Floor Tile Installation Guide

Prepare The Area: Wipe clean and dry off the area being tiled. Place painter’s tape around the perimeter and objects around the area to protect surrounding surfaces.

Apply The Thinset: Start in a back corner and apply the thinset evenly to the desired area with the flat edge of a 1/8″ notched trowel. Then use the notched edge of the trowel to create ridges in the material holding the trowel at about a 45-degree angle. Cover an area equivalent to about three sheets of the pebble tile.

Lay The Tiles Down: Press the first sheet of pebble tiles into the thinset, butting the sheet as close as possible to the walls. Wiggle the sheet of tiles slightly to settle it in the thinset.

pebble tilesContinue Tiling: Continue to spread thinset and add sheets of Strata Stones tile to the area, butting the sheets as close as possible. To fit a tile in a space too small for a whole tile, cut the mesh which hold the pebbles together. You can also remove individual pebbles to fill empty spaces.

Tap the Tiles In Place: On top of the tile, place a straight, flat board that spans many tiles and gently tap it with a mallet to thoroughly set the tile and ensure the faces of tiles are all at the same height.

Let The Tiles Set: Once the tile has been laid down, allow at least 24 hours for the thinset to dry before continuing.

Seal The Tiles: Apply a coat of tile sealer to prevent the stone from absorbing color from the grout.

Apply The Grout: Spread grout across the pebble tiles using a grout float so that the grout is packed in all the spaces between the pebbles.

Clean The Tiles: Allow the grout to set for up to 20 minutes. Then, wipe away the haze from the tiles surface with a damp sponge. Rinse the sponge often to keep it clean. Let the grout cure completely according to the package instructions. Continue to clean the grout residue with a clean sponge until desired pebble exposure is reached.

Seal The Grout: Apply a coat of sealer over the grout and pebbles. For the best results, follow the instructions for the specific tile sealer used.

Simple Ideas For Bathroom Tile Designs

Bathroom tile designs are created based on a few key elements:

  • Size of the room: In a small space try to focus the bathroom wall tile on one wall instead of tiling every wall. This will break up the space and visually make it feel larger. Avoid using many different colors in a small space to keep the room from feeling too cluttered. Accent tiles are always encouraged to bring variation to the space but be strategic with their placement.
  • Color scheme: This is largely based on personal taste but is still an important part of developing pleasing tile designs. For more information on selecting a bathroom color scheme click here.
  • Budget: The budget you have available will determine the what tiles you will include in the design. Tiles vary in price based on material, size, finish, and quantity.
