332 Days as a Pattaya Expat
332 Days, it has gone very quickly. 902,100 Baht have gone also. 81,510 Baht per month. 2717 Baht per day.
I am 57 years young and plan on staying here health pending to age 65 (pension age). The rules keep changing; however at the moment I will need to spend 3 months per year in my country to be eligible. I have not researched this as it is a long way off. I have a home in Australia rented out with a three year lease. After the three years I have an option for three years again. One day I may sell and downsize. Maybe Thailand will be out of my system by then, (BS) if that is the case I hope to still have some savings left. Nice car, boat etc. I believe in being comfortable in my advanced years so I have spent 177260 Baht on goodies since arriving here.
Subtract the goodies from 902,100 Baht and divide by 332 and the daily spend is 2183 Baht.
65,490 per month.
If I stayed in the room and lived on water I would still spend 817 Baht per day, (see list below):
Apartment
TGF
Power, Electric
Water
Trash
Retirement Visa
Internet
Health Insurance
Mobile Phone
Medication
I have been with a Thai girl for 2.4 years including 10 months in Australia, (we came back to Thailand together.) She is a sensible girl and saves the money I give her. She pays for her own dental, buys he own clothes, phone cards, etc. Her family are good hard working people and don't bother her or I for money, (they don't even own a dead buffalo).
Without her my daily spend would be a lot higher. We have made our apartment very comfortable and it is no hardship to stay home every now and again with a very attractive lady 22 years my junior.
A tip for anyone considering retiring here, don't forget to calculate you expenses in your own country. I spend 25% of my passive income on the following:
Income Tax
Property Management
Repairs to Property
Council Rates
Home Insurance
Landlord Insurance
Contents Insurance
Accountant
Living here is not as cheap as you may think. I feel I have a very privileged life and live very well. I eat well and drink a shitload. I have a lady that is an absolute gem. We hit the bars and Ago gos together so I get to see it all without the lady drinks and bar fines.
My girl would be quite happy to stay in the apartment for weeks on end, she just loves it. She never goes out with the girls either. She makes life very easy and enjoyable for me. Bottom line is she saves me a heaps of money.
65000 Baht a month seems to be the right amount to live well here. If a man didn't like to drink so much it would be a lot lower.
My hope is that this may be of some help to BM who are considering the move. I am very happy I did. One more thought. I still have a job in Australia to go back to. I had the idea that if I spent to much or was killing myself drinking I would simply go back to work. I was so wrong after 332 days in fantasy land how the f**k could you ever go back to a boring f**king job.
I get a great deal out of PA so It is only fare I give something back.
I welcome any questions or comments.

My life in Isaan
Have thought for a while, whether to start a thread about my full-time life here in Isaan, whether it was a topic worth writing about, and whether I wanted to tell it publicly, and in a forum like this - having it discussed openly! My intial thought was to write a blog, but then I thought it might be more interesting and maybe helpful, doing it in an open forum.
So, let's see...
I find myself sitting in a small, peaceful village of roughly 80 people in Isaan. Very much like the those you may have seen on YouTube. There are people living in grass huts, and there are those in more modern houses. I look out the window and I see the original shop the family made, about a month ago, to sell slushies, crisps and other food items. To the left of that, is the new shop being constructed out of permanent materials, to sell a bigger range of items...
The family really are good, do not ask for money, and always make sure I am comfortable and not wanting for anything. You would think therefore this is going to be a happy story, but not so quick as there is much more involved to becoming settled in an Isaan village. My feelings range from being very happy in this relaxed, rural setting to wondering what the hell I am doing in the middle of nowhere!
So, how did I get here when a year ago I was in London, enjoying everything that city had to offer. Friends, travel and work - all good. I had been in a relationship for 20 years, and though we were and still are great friends, the fizz had gone. So I decided to come to Pattaya, for the first time.
I stayed in a very nice up-market hotel, lovely rooms with big beds, mirrors, lights, love swing, spa bath, rail over the bed - it had it all. Though it is more expensive then the guesthouses I now stay at. The first night, I went down to the in-house nightclub, then back to the room (some time later) with two ladyboys. The second night, one ladyboy, and the third day a GIRL! (for short time, but she had issues and I let her go)
Then I spent 3 days (was not aware of the rule) with another girl. She just wanted to sleep, but was Songkran and we had a lot of fun during the day, so I told her I would tip her the once, but not again, but she could stay a few days. I paid her bar fine each night she was happy with that.
After that, I went to an a GoGo and bar fined a girl. We stayed together day after day for a whole week. Then, close to the end she said "I not want you to butterfly". I was bored of London, and thought yeah, why not...
I went back to London, packed up all my things, organised an education visa and two months later came back to live, .
If there is interest, I will tell the story of moving from guesthouse to apartment in Jomtien, to building a house in Isaan. Will talk about how I find the customs, and settling (or not) into a small Isaan village. And then hopefully, having a pad here in rural Thailand, and travelling to Pattaya, and other places around Thailand...
Anybody Know this Lady - Asking Me for 3,000 baht
Does anybody know this lady? I met her online and she is asking me for 3,000 baht to be deposited into her bank account before she will come to Pattaya to visit me. She claims to be a teacher and poses like a school teacher with junior grade children.
jittrapat says: My account number 47600502xx, Krung Thai Bank, Jittrapat pongsiang
All advice and recommendations are sincerely appreciated.
Looking for an addicts based soi 6 bar
Soi 6 is full of addicts and it needs our help to stay busy.
Its the best soi in the world and should be used twice a day.
I have been approached by two forum members to start a soi 6 bar.
We are possibly looking for a silent investor to back us.
This business will be ran as a business but wont be a full time income, its more of a passion to start with, but will become profitable after buying more bars.
The concept is to start with one bar and build them up as a soi 6 chain.
If anyone is interested in investing or working there, (free room) please apply via PM
Full details will be provided in one week.
To accelerate our campaign, we will be offering 200 discount cards at 10,000 baht each. You will get your drinks 50% for life, but not on ladydrinks and barfines, who would buy one of these? We shall make this available, once the lease is signed.
Some general PB rules/ info &, timing is Everything
Some PB Gouge:- If you dont ask for it, you probably wont get it. If you do ask for it & dont get it ask someone/ somewhere else
- If you know where to go & when to be there, you will never have to buy a meal in PB (many free food in the bar promotions)
- If it looks cheap & like an unbelievable bargain, thats what it is (junk & not true check the hidden costs)
- In most cases, pay for each round as you go &, check the bills 30% of the time this trip my bar tab was padded; the bars count on the poor lighting, small faded print on the bills & the drunk/ distracted customers to NOT catch the padding
- Dream Teen massage great lookers (check their web/ sister shop in BKK is Lady Teen on Soi 33), room service OK & not too expensive, but hidden costs/ agenda all business (limited conversation, not much in the pleasantries arena, limited personality)
One New Lodge Checked:- ARECA Resort & some others near Soi Dianne & Bu kao road; Areca pretty nice, prices higher than most, but a little tough to get into & out of the rooms + staff not too friendly AND they charge for bringing company back to your room (+ Im told they do not let any girls in under 20 years old..)
Bars checked this trip:- Alcatraz pretty cool after midnight, good tuts, but almost young ladies all had pumped/ enhanced nom. Still, good music/ scenery (but check your bill; this is one of the padded cases)
- Check Kiss GG & Submarine GG around the corner from Champagne, next to or near Devils Den; KISS has great DVD/ music set up & selection of videos, very nice team of friendly ladies with Beach table kind of dancing up skirts a-plenty (and, free food sometimes same with Lolitias the previous night Saturday I think) -- & inexpensive
- Check Oasis GG on Bu kao. 2 for one until ~2300. Ladies average to just above average, but at least one dancer worth seeing. Youll know which one when you see her. Tall, older, but best grinder Ive seen in a while...
- Champagne GG still has great show(s) starting at ~2145 through ~2300 (even after raid)
- Check Baby Dolls past Mistys
- Check Windmill also both Baby Dolls & WM kind of fun-raunchy with fruit & ice tricks + eager set of staff; they aim to please
- Check INSOMNIA - always good for some ups-kirt scenery
Making the move in May
At the ripe old age of 50 I am about to make the move to Pattaya.
Like a lot of guys I suppose, I have been planning this for a long time and would have loved to have made the move 10 years ago but that would have been financially irresponsible if not impossible.
I have never been married and have no kids that I know of. With no ties and a budget of 65,000 baht per month I am ready to give it a go. This amount is the minimum for a retirement visa in any case.
Of course 100,000 baht a month would be fantastic but I think I can still have a good life on my budget and get out 3 or 4 nights week. That is probably all I should be doing healthwise anyway.
If like me you follow posts of people who have made the move wondering about your own future ability to move permanently I will provide progress reports.
I am sure boredom won't be a problem as I have been bored shitless living in farangland for the past 10 years. I would rather have too much time on my hands in thailand than work, eat, shit, sleep, repeat 5 days a week then get plastered for 2 days every weekend occassionally pulling an ugly fat bird to root.
I am well aware life will not be like it is on 2 week holidays but it couldn't be anyway, I would be f**ked after 6 months. My plan is to pace myself and stay reasonably healthy. I hope to make some good mates to hang out with.
Anyway lads I've got just over 2 weeks to go until I am an EXPAT and all good things come to those who wait.
Three dry days next month
Just a heads up guys. Here in Pattaya there will be 3 dry days next month. Firstly we have Visaka Bucha Day on June 4th. It is the holiest of all Buddha days and so expect the majority of bars to be shut, and you will probably be unable to buy alcohol in the shops. This day applies to the whole of Thailand.
Secondly, and this applies to Pattaya only, we have mayoral elections on June 17th. If this plays out the same as previous elections it means the bars will be shut from 6pm on the 16th and will not be allowed to reopen until midnight on the 17th. However, on previous election days, the bars have been allowed to open quietly from about 10pm on the day of the election before springing into full life at midnight!
So be prepared!!!
Mrs. Facebook sort of plain not a Billionaire Hottie?
If you were a Billionaire would you be even seen with that really. Plain Jane, almost dog faced, average at best are things being said.
If I was Billionaire Boy I would have Smokers yup real sultry hot smoking hot super model faces with super hot bodies like a young Sammy Jo on Dynasty in cut offs aka (Heather Locklear at 18-22) or even Bittney spears at 18-22 or one of 50000000000000000 supermodel types not her.
If you had the money would you demand beauty and multiple partners or be a p***y whipped pup??

Discrep's Cherry Patts TR
Note: for some reason I decided to leave my iphone in my safe the whole time so I didn't take any pictures. Not sure why I did it but I do apologize.
Okay, so I guess it's time for me to get this all down in writing before I forget the relevant details. A bit of background. I planned this trip to Patts towards the end of my mega-Asia trip of 6 weeks, 6 countries. This was to be my first time in Pattaya, although I am an experienced monger in the states and was fresh off 9 days in Angeles City and 8 days in Saigon, so I had a bit of experience dealing with the asia mongering scene and bargirls, ladydrinks and barfines.
I am an American of Chinese descent, and since this was 4 weeks into my trip, I was pretty tan at this point so I look like a local everywhere I went, whether I was in singapore, vietnam, philippines, or now, thailand. I've noticed it's a bit tougher for local-lookalikes to get action because you have to be more proactive in approach. Lots of girls will be hesitant (in AC, they thought I was an undercover cop sometimes lol) but after I started talking, the issues disappeared. I also learned how to be more open and happy looking during my time in patts, but more on that later.
I arrived at Suvarnabhumi at around 1 pm still hungover from my previous night in Saigon. Quick aside here, girls in Vietnam can f**king put down their drink. My last night there was at a fellow BM, Doodie's, wife's friend's (lol) birthday party and everyone was drinking heineken's and every time we cheers'd, it was bottoms up and the chicks were going bottle for bottle with the guys. Needless to say, we all got royally shitfaced and I had a 9 AM flight out the next morning.
My friend Doodie has been to patts a few times and told me to take a bus rather than pay for a taxi and since I didn't have anything prearranged, I headed downstairs after I passed immigration and bought a ticket for the bus to patts leaving 30 minutes later. I think all airports should offer free wifi, come on, it's f**king 2012, but I sat there trying to connect and failing hard, couldn't even buy wifi access it was so damn slow. The bus was boarding at this point, so I followed the line out and hopped on. Got on the bus with about 90% mongers and a group of chinese female tourists and chuckled to myself.
Boring 2 hour ride later where I slept fitfully most of the way, we arrived on the outskirts of Pattaya. First problem now I ran into was which f**king stop to get off of (note: newbies, just book Mr. T, it'll save you stress where you don't need it). The guy sitting next to me was a farang, but a euro and spoke barely intelligible english, but I remembered my hotel, Pattaya Bay Resort, being in central pattaya so when that stop was called, I got off. I got a bit spooked getting off as I was only one of four people getting off and figured I might be doing it wrong. Got off and a motorbike taxi asked me if I wanted a ride. Told him PBR and he said 80 baht, well ok then. He put my bag between his knees and I got behind and we went off on a harrowing ride across Sukhumvit and Third Road and turns out I was pretty close.
Check in went fine and got up into the room, cranked the aircon, and I passed out for a few hours. Got up and it was around 6 and I decided to go to the 7-11 to pick up supplies and a sim card. Checked the forums back at the hotel and found out Xyleezy was doing a crawl tonight. I had good success meeting BMs in phils, so I decided to text him and see if i could join and got a text back saying it was all good. Since this was the castle/boyztown crawl, asked if i should go on it seeing as it's my first day on my first trip ever to patts and he sent back "yup, just don't volunteer for anything" hahaha ok.
Ate some food at the restaurant upstairs and showered and went to buffalo bar to meet up with the crawl. The first time you're in any new city, the disorientation sucks. Even after studying maps of patts, I have to visually see landmarks and streets so the first night was a big whirlwind of neon lights and having absolutely no idea where I was. Walked into buffalo bar right on time, not realizing in patts that nobody is ever on time, haha. It was a bit awkward as I walked in and saw 4-5 older farangs all talking to ladies and nobody had that "i'm leading a crawl" look about them. I sat and ordered a beer and an older thai girl sat down and we had a chat. I told her it was my first time in buffalo bar but i'd been to patts before (not stupid enough to announce my newbness), etc, etc. After about 10 minutes, Xylanic and Cardinal and a couple of other BMs roll in, so I move my chair over to their table, where immediately AJ announces loudly that I was on my first night on my first ever trip to patts. Hahaha. The lady I was talking to obviously caught me in a lie, but I just shrug, what can you do really?
We drink a couple of rounds but they inform us that the Castle part of the crawl has been cancelled due to a bad experience, which you can read about on their report. So, we check bin and head off on soi lengkee towards LK metro. Fellow BM Stuart (sorry don't know your boardname), gives me a mini tour along the way, much props. First stop is oasis gogo. Now philippines is a lot more conservative than patts, girls wear bikinis and at most thongs and don't get topless or naked, so I was a bit shocked at seeing all the girls topless when we walked in. This was more like a strip club back in the states.
We bounce after a drink and head to Destiny where we see this mega hot chick but she's latched onto this jacked up rugby player. After a round, we head on off towards 2nd road and Cardinal stops at a kebab stand and then keeps stopping at liquor carts. We have a funny conversation where I tell him he's like vince vaughn in wedding crashers when he can't stop eating and drinking everything in front of him. We took a long hike to Boyztown and walk into Obsessions. Now, at the time, I had no idea this was a mixed lady/LB bar, and I figured it was a pure LB bar. We sit at a big booth in the back near the jacuzzi and order drinks. Xy and Cardinal immediately pull LB/girls to their sides. At the time, I thought both were LBs but Cardinal's was definitely a lady. The mamasan, who's basically yokozuna in drag and quite scary, comes over and chats with us. A pretty hot LB gets in the jacuzzi and starts dancing and soon AJ and another BM, Chris, strip down to their boxers and jump in for shits and giggles.
