Toscano Design
Today, we’re going to take a look at another set of fountains, but these are all of a type referred to as “spitting fountains”, and most of them are made of bronze from a company called Design Toscano.
Like the one shown here (which is the Medium-sized Single Dolphin Solid Bronze Garden Statue), most are stand-alone sculptures of animals that are cast in the traditional lost wax bronze method and are also piped for optional fountain and pond use.
(Lost wax casting, also known as cire perdue, is an ancient method of casting that dates back thousands of years, and has been used the world over. It is often used because it retains the fine detail of the original sculpture.)

“I purchased the large Asian Dragon for my hill side water garden. It is a very dramatic addition to this garden room. Very detailed and well made. I love it and recommend it!” (Denise, Missouri)

The two traditional-looking fountains feature lions, while with the free-standing ones, you can choose from egrets, dolphins, manatees, frogs, alligators, dragons, cranes, ducks, fish, sea turtles, marlins, geese and even a mermaid:
Note that most of the above items will require a pump kit, such as BB-75240 shown here.
This kit includes a submersible, re-circulating pump with a 12 ft. power cord, 4 ft. of vinyl tubing, connecting clamps, and a flow adjuster. Larger tubing is available for larger installations or deeper ponds.
Other pumps are also available from Design Toscano, should you require them.

“The Four Lion Sculptural Fountain really is a very fine fountain and makes quite a statement in the garden. We’ve had ours for over 10 years and it is still going strong. Beware, it is very heavy and difficult to move, so be sure of your site.

So, which of these many beautiful Toscano Design garden sculptures / spitting fountains will you choose? If it’s any help, Mark’s favourite is the Monumental Five Dolphin Spitting Bronze Garden Statue, while Rae’s is the Three Entwined Dolphins Spitting Bronze Garden Statues.

Villa Bungalow Pavilion
We’re back to pavilions again today, but this one is nothing like the ones that we’ve looked at previously – those were predominantly commercial affairs, whereas this one would really look great in your garden, but it has other uses, as we’ll soon see.
It’s called the Villa Bungalow Pavilion, and it’s part of the Preferred Series by a company called International E-Z UP, Inc.
While it may look somewhat plain and simple, this actually serves to hide the very clever design and modern technology that have gone into this pavilion.
Firstly, it boasts an aircraft aluminum frame, which means it’s really sturdy.
Next, the fasteners are stainless steel, it uses T2 Double Truss Technology, has a triple thick inner leg and is topped off with a Sunbrella awning grade top and Sunbrella furniture grade curtains and sidewalls.
Designed in the spirit of lakeside pavilions in Tuscany, the Villa is a classic style that evokes fine living in the rolling hills of the Mediterranean countryside with its subtle heathered-beige tones and traditional sensibility.
This Villa Bungalow Pavilion uses four colours in its themed design:
- Heather Beige (top)
- Heather Beige (curtain)
- True Brown (tie-back accent)
- Mocha (frame)
The model shown above is 16 x 16 ft, although smaller models, at 13 x 13 ft and 10 x 10 ft, are also available.
As usual, you do need to assemble this, but you don’t need to worry, as it’s really easy. You will receive a fully-illustrated, 12-page colour manual that contains everything you need to know (e.g. set-up instructions, care and maintenance tips, take-down instructions), but to give you an idea of just how easy it is, why not take a look at this very short video that shows you exactly what we mean:
In the interests of safety, we should point out a few important pieces of information from the manufacturer, which are taken directly from the instruction manual:
- Always weight down or stake your Bungalow®. It should not be used in any potentially windy or rainy weather.
- Wind, rain and snow can damage the Bungalow® and may also result in injury to you or others, so do not rely on shelter for protection in heavy or prolonged weather storms.
