Is Your Child Bully Proof!

National Martial Arts Academy Offers Free Self-Defense Workshop on Saturday, January 21, 2012

January is National Personal Self-Defense Awareness Month.

Martial Arts Personal Development Center in San Antonio, Texas announced today that their academy is hosting free Martial Arts/Bully Proof workshop on Saturday, January 21, 2012 for children and adults. In addition to helping participants become better able to defend themselves and get in better shape along the way,Martial Arts Personal Development Center is committed to help fight the growing problem of child abductions. According to lostchildren.org 1,000 children are missing or abducted every day. Martial Arts Personal Development Center is showing children and adults that there is a fun alternative way to stay safe, be alert, and how to conduct themselves in any threatening situation.

Here are some frightening statistics we all need to be aware of:

Every 2 minutes, someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted.

Every 6 minutes, someone in the U.S. is raped.

Every 34 minutes, someone in the U.S. is Murdered.

(Statistics from FBI Uniform Crime Reports www.fbi.gov)

According to the American Medical Association, 3.7 million youths engage in bullying, and more than 3.2 million are victims of moderate or serious bullying each year (Cohn & Canter, 2003).

The best way to avoid an physical and dangerous altercation with an attacker is to apply quick thinking and non-escalating methods to the situation in order to get away. Attackers feed off of the victims vulnerability; you must stay alert, calm and attentive to avoid a compromising situation.

Through physical discipline not only will individuals feel better, they will learn how to take care of their bodies. We want to teach people to be aware of their surroundings and show them how to protect themselves to get away from potentially dangerous conditions, stated Dr. Lockhart, Sr., owner of Martial Arts Personal Development Center in San Antonio and a member of United Professionals, a national Martial Arts school management company. Our workshop is a great way for beginners to learn the basics of Self-Defense. In the free workshops, participants will learn the basic moves from the effective disciplines in Self-Defense that Martial Arts Personal Development Center teaches:

  • Karate (traditional Martial Arts)
  • Kickboxing (techniques used in all ranges of Self-Defense)
  • Submission Grappling (defensive moves from the ground)

Each student will leave the workshop with increased strength, conditioning and confidence. Students of Martial Arts programs typically improve their Self-Confidence, attitude, and Self-Esteem, giving them a better outlook on life.

By teaching children how to protect themselves, Martial Arts Personal Development Center hopes to help significantly decrease the number of abductions each year. Please contact Martial Arts Personal Development Center at 210-675-0838 for times of the workshop.
