Cultural activities received 6.800 cruisers last Saturday in Malaga
The streets in the centre were yet again filled with jazz exhibitions, flamenco shows and classical music concerts in a new day of maximum tourist influx
After the success of April the 27th, the Tourist Board once again organised a new program of cultural activities in several streets of the citys historical centre receiving over 6.800 cruisers and 2.000 crew members that arrived at the city on three cruise ships.
The aim of these organised events is that the visitors find their stroll through our city even more attractive and so that they can discover Malaga as a lively city, with shows specially designed for all the profiles of tourists. Saturdays program took place between 10:00 and 12:30 in the Plaza de la Constitucin, where a flamenco fusion show was carried out by the group Flamenkura; on Cister street, an exhibition of traditional jazz with guitar and piano; and on Caldereria street, the Murillo Quartet offered a concert of classical concert.
As the Culture, Tourism and Sport councillor, already explained at the time, these activities were carried out during the days of most influx of cruisers. With this, the Tourist Board hoped to achieve that the visitors fall in love with the city and consider organising a longer stay in the destination in the near future.
The tourists dont want to just settle for discovering the citys patrimony, they need to live unforgettable experiences in the destination, knowing that the city that theyll be arriving at is culturally alive and can offer all kinds of activities, which is why we organised this wide range of shows and events, to value the richness of our culture, pointed out the councillor.
These activities also contributed to the promotion of the citys culture. In fact, the events (dance shows, music, performances or wine and olive oil tastings) were carried out by local professional groups or students of these disciplines.

, that yet another year participated in masses. Over five thousand people had a great time and participated in the tastings, different activities and samples of the festival, battling against the suffocating heat by grabbing plenty of drinks and searching for a shady spot in the park where the event took place.
The star product of the festival was obviously the orange, that was shared out amongst the participants in many different ways. In the morning, from very early, many people made their way to the San Agustin park to visit the many different food exhibitors that had almonds, cheese, bread or sweets, as well as traditional ceramic of the area or flowers. The participants were presented with refreshing orange juice which was very much appreciated due to the heat.
A total of 4.000 kilos of freshly squeezed oranges were served throughout the morning whilst enjoying several musical shows carried out by Pepi Fernandez dance academy and the Old Rondalla Orchard. Other activities took place throughout the day like the solidarity shopping of the flea market organised as a fundraiser or the petition with signatures to oppose to the courthouses abolition. The 2012 Orange Award was also given out, that this year went to the artist Carmen Escalona for promoting the traditions of the area, as she has spent years making ceramics that gather the best traditional spirit of the villages culture. Other awards went to the desserts elaborated with oranges. This festival is declared as Touristic interest and is traditionally attended by thousands of people.

Spain has not only firmly established in world football, but as well in the cruise sector it is has a prominent position. Thus Mlaga, the capital of the Costa del Sol, has become in recent years an important cruise ship destination in Spain.
Overall, Malaga has experienced in the last 15 years a rapid economic development and is representing today a meeting point of the Mediterranean Sea and an ideal city destination. Ready accessibility by sea, land and air, the climate, the historical old town with impressive buildings and the wide range of gastronomic and cultural offer, with 23 museums, such as for example, the Picasso Museum (Malaga is the birthplace of Pablo Picasso) make the city worth visiting and encourage guests to chose Malaga for a trip and combine it with a stay of one or more nights.
Since the port is a few steps away from the old town of Malaga, cruise guests can easily explore the downtown area of Malaga on their own. Also, the recently expanded Malaga airport is conveniently situated only a few kilometres from the capital of the Costa del Sol.
As a main tourist destination of the province, the Costa del Sol offers a large amount of opportunities to enjoy leisure, the beaches and the climate and to make the holiday stay eventful. All these opportunities have turned Malaga over the years into one of the most popular holiday destinations on the Iberian Peninsula for domestic and foreign visitors.
In this section of coast are the largest towns of the province which have made tourism, sun and beach their trademark: Benalmadena, Torremolinos, Fuengirola, Estepona and of course Marbella, are the most visited towns on the Costa del Sol.
In addition to these communities visitors can find the smaller villages situated next the coast, enjoying a great location between sea and mountains, such as Casares, Benahavis, Manilva, Mijas, etc., to name a few. In these places you can enjoy the fantastic surroundings of nature and an impressive view of the coast.
These places can be reached best with a car and it is advisable to reserve a car hire at Malaga airport in advance, because here the transport is scarce. Discover during your stay the other side of the Costa del Sol, which offers so many cultural, historic and beautiful natural places.
