I Want Revenge Kentucky Derby 2009 Scratched
Hot favorite I Want Revenge will not race in the Kentucky Derby in 2009.
It has been revealed that the 3-year-old colt was scratched Saturday morning after the trainer Jeff Mullins discovered a hot spot on the horse's left front ankle.
Also an X-ray and ultrasound was performed to test the horse but did not find any damage, however the ankle was found to be tender when it was flexed. With the very likelihood of a wet track expected at the Kentucky Derby this year the trainer Jeff Mullins and owner David Lanzman did not want to take any unneccesary chances of injury to I Want Revenge.
Now that I Want Revenge is out of the Kentucky Derby, Friesan Fire takes over as the morning-line favorite. He had already become the betting favorite Friday night.
I Want Revenge and jockey 19-year-old Joe Talamo were to start the Kentucky Derby from post No. 13. The duo had firmly established themselves as one of the Kentucky Derby favorites after a brilliant last-to-first dash in the Wood Memorial race last month.
