Should I create a businesss android app?
A lot of small businesses will be asking the question, Can you create a new android application?
You need to work out why you would want an app, what you can do with an app, who would make it, what does it look like?
An app is a decision that shouldnt be taken lightly and you really need to think about why you want one for your business. An app that doesnt think about a customers experience is worth nothing to anyone that uses your app – so really think through the decisions you make to have an app made. An app that isnt wanted is useless. An app that nobody knows where to get is pointless.
if youre old enough, think back to when the internet was the talk of the town. Everyone was told they would be lost without a website, but not everyone who got one knew what to do with it. This is exactly what is going on now in the app world- people are buying apps that cost them serious amounts of money, and they are pointless|absolutely worthless} as nobody knows about them or nobody wants them.
What format do you want your app be in? Should you choose an iphone, an Android App, or no app? (Yes, no app really is an option). Its useful to look at some statistics on phone usage. In April 2011
Google Reported that 350,000 Android systems were activated daily. I cant see that number going any way but up.
Bulletin Healthcare reported that the iphone and iPad were used by 90% of those surveyed
In April 2011 Nokia reported to expect a further decline in sales of Nokia phones, but a return to form later in 2011 (well see about that).
Those business types amongst us will know that the Blackberry has a roughly even-stevens market share with IPhone and Android.
Do some research into your what your customers want. There are amazing statistics available which will let you know whether your customer demographics buy the phone you want to create an app for. There is no point making an iphone app if everyone in your target market has an android phone.
Dont be wedded to your personal phone you use. Yes, you may love your phone (you do spend more time with it than your great aunty mable) but just because you have bought this phone, doesnt mean your target market think the same.
Another point is: Can they buy from you? Can they contact you easily?
Just having an app isnt good enough. The wrong app in the wrong place is like opening an amazing shop in Antarctica. You can spend all the money in the world you want on it -but if nobody knows about it, nobody will use it and it will be a waste of money.
Dont get me wrong, apps are amazing. Business Apps can bring you more customers, and importantly make customers come back to you.
If youre looking for someone to design a phone app for you – ensure they know more than just about designing and programming an app, make sure they take the above into account. Always think hard about mobile application developers.
