The tech world has been waiting for the day when Apple revolutionized the tablet market. I guess you could say Apple didn’t dissappoint. To date, over 2 millions units of the iPad have been sold and so far there have been no signs of sales slowly down for this juggernaut. Due to the nature of the iPad’s design which includes a fairly large screen, a good quality iPad case is absolutely essential. This is definitely not a device that one should dump into a bag unadorned along with the rest of your gear. At the very least, you need some screen protection. 3. Awesome Functionality
It is not altogther uncommon to find flip book covers that convert into a stand for your iPad. What Acase does is bring this to another level buy making the viewing angle adjustable. It’s a small but useful feature that many desk users will appreciate. The flip book jacket has an accent in the front that has a rather unique purpose. Though it might not have been the original intent, but some users have taken to using this elastic strap to attach the leather case to the back of a car seat. Instant in-car entertainment for back seat passengers anyone?
The Cons:
1. No Cows Were Harmed In The Making Of This Case
A lot of people have asked why this iPad case is so cheap. Well, the cat is out of the bag and this is one of the key factors that have allowed Digital Media Source to sell their product cheaper than the competition. The case itself is made of synthetic leather: vinyl to be specific. So for those wanting authentic leather, don’t buy this product. But if you’re happy to save a few cows then this case will probably sit well with you. By and large this is the only major hangup with this product.
The Bottom Line:
The Acase Leather Flip Book Jacket is well-designed, and priced to fit any budget conscious buyer. Aside from that, it has quality workmanship, has a slim profile and looks great with the iPad! Seriously, for this price, you won’t find a better alternative. This product is high rated across the board. What are the options? Let me give you a rundown:
1. Trendy Digital Waterguard Waterproof Case (Best price: $19.99)
If you’re just wanting to protect your iPad from the elements, then this might be right for you. The Waterguard protects against water, dust, dirt, sand and other elements. It’s perfect for this summer season as you bring your iPad to the beach and it also great for times when you’re by the poolside, in the bathtub, or even at the kitchen table. The Waterguard case provides a strap so that when you carry your iPad around, you can wear it either around your neck or your shoulder conveniently and easily. When using the WaterGuard case, the iPad can be slipped directly into the WaterGuard pocket and the transparent surface provides easy interaction with the keyboard and navigation interface. I wouldn’t recommend this for day-to-day use though. This sort of product works best when kept for ‘a rainy day’ or other situations that demand it. Otherwise, you will tend to wear it out fast.
This isn’t exactly a cover, but it’s a skin and offers some measure of protection so I thought I’d just include it here for completeness sake. It’s also dirt cheap at the moment on Amazon (the listed price is $29.99!). This soft silicone cover fits over the Apple iPad without blocking access to ports and helps guard against scratches and light bumps. The nice thing about it aside from the price is that it protects your iPad while still preserving it’s aesthetic beauty. The downside is that it usually doesn’t last and sometimes it is not as form fitting as you’d like so dust still gets in and you’ll need to take off the skin to clean the inside every so often. But at a price like that, it wouldn’t hurt to try right?
3. CrazyOnDigital Black Leather Carrying Case/Cover (Best price: $19.99)
If you’d like a touch of class to go with your iPad cover, you should consider the this cover by CrazyOnDigital. It has a black leather exterior with a matching black soft micro fiber padding in the interior. It is designed in a book-like form where you can place your iPad inside and secure it with the flexible straps in each corner. You can then carry it around in your hand like a book or use the wristband included(I prefer carrying by hand because the iPad can feel a bit heavy after a while). If you prefer a reliable cover that you can use with your iPad constantly, then this would be something I recommend. It’s durable enough and complements the iPad well in terms of design. Not a bad buy at $19.99 at Amazon(listed price is $39.99).
This is my personal favourite(I’m sure you knew that already). For a few more dollars, I get something even better than the CrazyOnDigital cover. Why? Because not only it is aesthetically pleasing and has the same (if not more) durable material used in construction, but it is also designed so that it can convert into a stand at multiple angles! This is handy when travelling or when you want to use the iPad at a desk. So now the iPad becomes a portable monitor in a sense that you can use to watch movies or do a little work.
