A Commonly Asked Question: Why Do People Snore?
Although many of us have said that we don?t snore, the only way to
know this with absolute certainty is to ask someone. Unless we
have a tape recorder and unless we ask someone whether we snore or
not, there is no way to know for certain. In fact, sporadic
snoring happens for a great deal of us when we?re extremely tired
or suffering from a bad cold. Nearly half of the adult population
seldom snores and thirty percent snore chronically.
why do people snore
?
Snoring occurs for many reasons, although the most common cause is
mild facial structure abnormalities and the heavy airflow that
forces its way out ? causing the snoring sound. It has many
causes, but the most common reason for this is facial structure
abnormalities or an obstruction and when we get older, the muscle
tone within the mouth changes, which causes the skin to partly
obstruct the back of throat. As we age, the muscles become more
lacking in their tone and causes the back of the throat, or pharynx
to be mildly obstructed. There are those of us who have occasional
difficulties with sleeping and may resort to sleeping aids or a
glass of wine to help prepare the body for slumber. Taking
occasional sleeping pills or drinking alcoholic beverages relaxes
the throat quite a bit, which is enough to cause snoring. Some of
us battle with occasional insomnia and seek some temporary relief
by having a glass of wine or a sleeping remedy.
Obesity is linked to many health concerns and is detrimental to
one?s life in general. The belief that snoring occurs among the
overweight population is correct, however everyone snores sometimes
and those who are incessant snorers can also be within the normal
weight range. Those of us who are underweight can also snore and
there are no outwardly obvious reasons for snoring to occur.
Although people do snore and some remain unaffected by it, many of
us are uncomfortable if we have a loved one who snores. We often
find ourselves having to sleep in another room or in a different
section within our homes when the snoring is especially loud. Now
that we have addressed why people do snore and what happens, it?s
imperative for those with ongoing problems with snoring to be
treated. For the sake of one?s sanity and ability to get some much
needed rest, we need to consider all of the available options.
